Anyone use these?

I searched the site and couldn't find any comments about them, so I thought I'd ask. They look quick, easy, effective and reasonably priced at about $.20 each.

I wouldn't waste the money. I have always just soldered my connections and used marine grade shrink tube. I've had insulation dry out and crack before the splice went bad. Just my 2 cents worth.

Looks easy when you have room to work and can twist the wire to get even heat. But how do you twist the wire and hold the heat gun in a tight space where most likely wires are? And how many butt joints would you have? Leave the wires long and them cut to length. And don’t have any connections that you won’t have easy access too.

Connectors are the primary failure point in any electrical circuit!

Making a good solder joint is harder than making a good crimped joint with a proper tool.

It is possible, regardless of what many claim, to make a good, reliable crimp joint with a hardware store tool. But it takes almost as much practice as learning to make a proper solder joint.

I have been making solder joints for more than 1/2 a century. I made my living soldering. I've also been making crimp joints for almost as long.

I wouldn't bother with waterproof solder connectors unless the joint was subject to water immersion. A good shrink wrap will protect a good solder joint from all but the most harsh conditions.

My $0.02 worth

i aready drank the Kool-Aid ;-)

had a custom boat trailer built and watch'd the guys use the waterproof crimp connecters

the young man who was doing the work called me from the wings where i had been watching the build and told me to get up close and watch

he used a Bic lighter w/ finesse to do the sealing and showed me how to watch for the heat activated sealant to ooze from the ends ever so slightly to know when the connection was sealed

those things worked w/o failure for the 5 years i owned the boat which got dunked reguarly in both fresh and salt water

saw the commercial for these new connecters and ordered up a bag of each size

have only played w/ them so far and can tell you not use a propane torch

it gets too hot too fast

when electjuicity is available use a heat gun

in the field i'm going to a butane match or Bic(both of which i carry in my kits)

their main job is coming to fruition and they will be used on this new boat trailer which is destined for both fresh and salt water dunkings

when it comes to electrical connections i consider dunking in salt water to be an acid test

i'll let you know if they fail
