Battery Harness

Postby Angus McBagpipe » Mon Feb 25, 2019 8:18 pm

Hello Everyone,
I'm floundering a wee bit with the battery connections to my TD trailer. I'm just not sure were to start.
So I guess I'm looking for a little help and moral support to get this part of the project off the ground.
1. Most of our trips will be weekend aways. With some longer trips planned to do some fall camping in Algonquin Park.
2. I'm looking tpo make use of (2) batteries in my TD.
3. I have built a 12v System. Lights, fan, USB recharge etc ...
3. I will be using a typical plug in battery charger.
Q. My biggest issue .. Do most people buy the wiring harness to connect the batteries or do you make one? Help!
Q. What kind of batteries would you suggest?

Why two batteries? It sounds like you are planning on using a minimalistic amount of power. From what I'm hearing, one 35 amp/hour wheelchair battery will do it. At the most, a Group 24 marine battery.

Here's what you need:

- A marine fuse block
- Two-wire cable, black and red AWG 16
- Run two 12 AWG wires from your battery to the fuse block
- Install an inline 15 amp fuse where the hot wire takes off from your battery

Run the cable to each appliance.

Here's the fuse block: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-Systems-Blade-Blocks/dp/B001P6FTHC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=marine+fuse+box&qid=1551146848&s=digital-text&sr=8-1

And here's the wire: https://www.amazon.com/GS-American-Conductor-Power-Electrical/dp/B074DMPH8P/ref=sr_1_37?crid=2JTPGMCV4II0F&keywords=16+gauge+speaker+wire&qid=1551147022&s=gateway&sprefix=16+gauge+%2Caps%2C205&sr=8-37

Easy-peasy.

Thanks for the info Tony
2 batteries because I'm planning on making use of a small 12v heater. (Fall camping and it gets cold in Canada)
My wife doesn't like being cold. So, all efforts and planning are being employed to keep her happy. (Because I'm a smart man)

Sounds like a plan.

We use a 12V electric blanket to preheat the bed on chilly nights. They've got a timer and use about 5 amp/hours.

You won't be crawling into a smoking hot bed, but it won't be cold.

How large is the heated part of this blanket? I am thinking about getting one and wonder if it gets warm all over or in just one spot.

The whole enchilada.

Angus: My first teardrop was commercially built. It had a little 12V 150 watt heater that was hard to tell if it was putting out any heat. Don't get your hopes up.

:frightened:
