LED light suggestions

Postby stupido » Sat Jul 27, 2019 8:37 pm

Not quite TnTTT but related. I am looking for a 12 VDC LED light for my ham shack. I want to light my radio and not be too bright. I am using a desk lamp at the moment. I was looking at rack lights and thought why not a 12V LED light? I have the 12V source already.

So I want said light. I want a passive light. Not controller etc. Just LEDs. The rationale, I do not want a switch power supply or any controllers to add RF noise. I was looking at white clearance lights and a friend suggest amber/yello as easier on the eyes.

So I know many have used various LED lights inside and outside of their TnTTT, I am looking for recommendations.

thanks

This may not be much help as these are sold in four packs, but, I really like them in my TD. Specs are right in the description... 300 lumens. The nice thing is they have a very dim glow when powered off to guide you to the built in switch. That means they draw some when off, but, I deal with that with a main battery switch.

If you expect to see nighttime hours of use, I might suggest red lighting. It doesn't hurt your night vision once the eyes get used to low light conditions.
I don't see any reason you couldn't utilize automotive lighting, and you could get lower candlepower lamps for the same fixture(s).

 Just pull one of your existing light bulbs and check how many contact points it has, one or two, and then purchase your LED bulbs accordingly.
