These days, DIY LifePo4 battery banks cost near the same as equivalent useful aH of SLA. So if you are up for a DIY project, not a matter of the long term payback. It is already breakeven with all the pros of LiFePo4 over SLA.

It sure was fun learning about LiFePO4 batteries and building one myself. I’m not sure I would have had the brain space for this at the same time I was building my trailer, but since the trailer has been done for a while now, it was a good upgrade and a fun project. Here is a description I put together of what’s involved if anyone is thinking of DIY-ing a LiFePO4 battery in the future.

Great video! 280 Ah is a HUGE amount of power, congratulations! That’s really cool.

I retired our Lifeline AGM after ten years and it is being used to power our battery backup sump pump. It never got below 50% SOC
There is new technology coming that will make all the current (pun intended) batteries obsolete for those gotta have the bestest.

Will not make them obsolete, but probably much cheaper. I do look forward to the new technology in any case. I am sure it will sell at a premium out of the gate.

Thanks. I built a 230aH cell as well to put with the 280aH cell. I have 510aH useable in my CTC. Mainly I wanted the capacity to run my small AC as needed when traveling. It has worked well so far. Solar powered AC.

So, I have to admit it. I have waffled on the battery idea. My six year old AGMs are toast.. Most of what I wrote in the previous post in this thread I have changed my mind on. Thanks to that dang Lauren I've just ordered a 100 aHr 4S LiFePo4 kit. Its supposed to be an easy assembly. And the price was too good to pass considering I was going to buy two 100 aHr Mighty Max AGMs through Wallyworld for $175 each. The kit is 100 aHr and shipped it is $285. I hope it is a good quality kit and serves me well cause... I just want to go camping...

Thanks Lauren. Just poking fun. You're the best.

Did you get the kit from battery hook up? I see they have a 100ah kit.

For usable ah, that's comparable to or cheaper than AGM. Eyebrow raised. ;-)

Got a fairly quick answer from batteryhookup about top balancing...

"Hi!

They are not top balanced, we recommend doing so

You can buy an ISDT Q-8 charger... charge each of the packs up to 3.65V and then hook them in parallel so they can balance out around full charge "
