Experience with this LiFePo4 company? Lynx

Postby TimC » Wed May 12, 2021 3:26 pm

Its a little early for replacement of my AGM bank but doing a little research and ran into this company in Seattle that build all sorts of new gen batteries. Anyone have any experience with them. The prices seem to be getting closer to what I would consider.

I think I paid $288 for 144 aHrs (AGM ~ 72 aHrs usable). Their 120 aHr (~ 90ish usable) is $670 shipped. Still up there but better than the 1K they were a year or so ago. Texted back and forth with the guy and they will build a 2x2 configuration at no extra charge to fit where my AGMs are located.

never heard of them. but that means nothing.

You can build a 100 ah lifepo4 for like 225 bucks in 15 mins, and probably do a 120 ah for 250. I dont understand why they are saying its only 90 ah usable, unless they are using the 90-20% number for 5000 cycles numbers.

I bought 2 60 ah lifepo4 for 600 shipped with a USA based 3 year warranty. I would build my next one if I ever need another.

90 aHr usable on the 120 aHr rated battery is my number not Lynx. I don't know a lot about LiFePo4 batteries but have read that the less frequently they are deeply discharged the longer their expected life. My normal demand is probably less than 25 aHr per day and is easily recovered the next day. On a sunny day usually by noon. Using 90 aHr would be rare if it ever happened but I want the cushion for a long trip with unpredictable solar generation.

I realize I could source materials and build myself cheaper but I don't feel confident doing that. I'm ok with paying for a complete battery and BMS. Just hoping when it comes time to replace my AGMs the prices have come down more. Competition in the market for these batteries seems to be heating up.

yes doing the 90 to 20% charge/discharge should give 5000 cycles, doing the 100% to 0% should be 3000 cycles.

look my my post I just did one real life battery and solar

Doing a diy battery is less complicated than wiring your fuse panel. Its 4 buss bars on the battery, 5 little wires on the bms, a big wire from the bms to the battery and your done. Plus if you get a smart bms it will bluetooth to your phone and give you state of charge.

But I understand, I wish at this point I had done a diy battery. Heck I will sell you my two 60 ah lifepo4 batteries for 600, they have less than 5 full cycles on them, and about 30 partial cycles. I would then diy a 280 ah battery and break even.

I get that wiring it all up is easy when you have all the compatible parts. I've watched a couple videos and they don't make the matching components part sound easy. Lots of "be careful about..." Just matching the BMS to the battery bank capacity is confusing. Lynx is the closest to providing all the matched components that I have found. I've never done business with them so please don't take my comments about their offerings as an endorsement.

The matching the bms to the battery is also why I said get a smart bms, it lets you set the voltages and amps as you want. just set or buy the bms to a 1c discharge and charge. ie 100 amp battery ( if the battery can handle it ) 100 amps for discharge and charge. if you want to stress the battery a little less set it at 80 amps. My amped outdoors 60 ah batteries, iirc, with a constant discharge of 50 surge to 80 each and charge I dont know. Charging is not an issue, as my shore power is 13 amps, and solar will be under 7 amps, so I can never break 20 amps.
