7 Pin Junction Box

Postby Capebuild » Wed May 26, 2021 2:48 pm

Hello... I'm looking to purchase a 7 pin wire Junction box to make all my connections from TV to teardrop. I don't have any experience with this sort of thing and wondering if this looks like what I should be considering.
If there are other suggestions, other brands.....I'd be open to hear them.
Thanks!
John

John, that looks like a very "professional" way to finish off the wiring harness. Had I seen this when I built my woodie it certainly would have made more sense and probably not cost much more after buying the 7 way trailer end pigtail and making my own junction box. I used a $9 waterproof PVC box from HD. Not elegant but serves the purpose. I probably spent nearly the amount for that kit you posted.

John, looks like the one I use.
I make a label on the cover to remind me what wire terminals are for what.

Basically what we have. Ours was made by "MICTUNING"; I have no idea if there's any difference. No complaints after two trips.

I think I overdid the number of separate wires terminated on a few of the studs. (5 or 6 on the ground and on at least one other stud.) If I were to do it over, I'd lead one wire out to a separate terminal strip (our J box is in a waterproof utility compartment) and run the multiple wires to separate studs on the syrip. I replaced their nuts in the J box with the proper metric sized nylock, and they seem to have stayed tight over about 20 hours of driving so far.

I too use the Mictuning. It's got the double female brass connectors.

But the one you've got pictured uses the same photo on Amazon. Must be rebranded.

Keep in mind there are two color systems used. The 7-way traditional (for utility trailers etc) and the 7-way RV Standard (for 5th wheels). Now, why there are two systems is beyond my comprehension. The Mictuning uses the RV.

I did this after 10 years. Should have from day one. I even labeled the wiring, not as nicely as Danny did. Btw, that pink insulation is the underside of the cabin floor. Unwashed after all those years. Rose just doesn’t get dirty under there.

Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

Thank you all for the help.

One other question...... about how much of the 8 feet of lead wire from junction box is left as slack to connect to the tow vehicle's connection? Is 12 inches too much, not enough....
Thanks

John, with my removable tongue off I measure 36" of chord.
It depends a lot on your particular set up with the tow vehicle.
You don't want a Jack knife situation but don't need chord hanging on the road.
I have a short bungie chord to take up the extra slack.

Maybe if you have a tongue box to hide it a small loop of slack wire tied under it or the TD will allow you to adjust for future needs.
