120V submersible pump experiment. Is it safe???

Anything electric, AC or DC

Postby Chuck Craven » Mon Apr 03, 2006 6:35 pm

ENDO
Go ahead and use the pump, it’s designed for water!
My well pump is run on 220 and no GFI protection and has a plastic pipe to the house.
I would wire it after the GFI outlet and put in a dedicated 1 amp fuse.
You can get a fuse holder from an electronic supply house. It has a screw cap with the fuse under it. As to grounding the sink and faucet! Why? If your house has plastic pluming, they don’t ground the sink or faucet!

ALL RIGHT, a fellow Darwin Awards follower!

Ok, back from my thread madjack, and following this discussion with interest...

BTW, has it occurred to ANYONE to simply look at a long-established manufactured unit (Oh, Airstream comes to mind) to see and follow what they do? After all, THEY have to follow codes, and WE should benefit from observation...

...in all of these arguments there is one fact that has been sorely overlooked...This pump is not meant for pumping of water for human consumption and for no other reason BUT that one, I would steer very well clear of it...as an added aside...if possible I would avoid mixing ACV and water...I grew up with water wells...have also worked on them as a plumber and have been knocked on my butt more than once by some errant electrons...

OK now we know why Jack is MAD!!
He forgot to turn off the power before playing in the well!

I guess I didn’t look closely at the information on the pump!
What is the pump meant for like fish tanks? It does not say it can’t be used for drinking water but it doesn’t say it can. :NC

Yes Jack is right!!!!
Some plastics have led in them. Like garden hoses.
If you are using a garden hose for filling you tank or at the campground look for one that is rated for palatable water usage. :applause: :applause:

You mean there's a theory. Gotta get out more.

Yes but they are sill under the same basic building codes!
I have seen many a licensed electrician make mistakes in wiring up the simplest circuit!

Just remember the federal code is the minim required. Any state can write a code that is stricter that the federal code. And any municipality can write a code stricter than the federal or state code. But it applied only to that municipality/state and does not necessarily apply to your camper! There are originations that have written codes too, thay have to meet the federal code or better but only apply to those that belong to that origination. Such as campers, boots, air plans and exc. :?
