jlreyburn, sounds like a good trip. We also have a privacy tent that we got from Bass Pro, pops up in seconds. Being the frugal person that I am, we got a large plastic container, much like the large containers of kitty litter with a good lid and got small garbage bags. Use a little kitty litter in it and dispose each morning. Love having something close by in the middle of the night and we don't use it during the day. It works perfectly and really does not take up much room. Those little rooms close by at midnight are priceless. :D

We have driven round trip from Alaska to Arizona a couple times in the winter. Slept in temps as low as 20 below. Had a fun time!! Here is a link to a trip report with pics of our first trip south a few years ago.........

I'm in the middle of a road trip now. I started in North Carolina in the Raliegh-Durham area. The TD isn't complete yet. Because I'm converting someone else's project, things are a bit out of order. The first day I drove a bit over 750 miles, and stayed just over the TN border in Marion AR. From there it was about 600 miles to Abilene TX. So far the TD has worked great. Its half full of stuff, as I'm moving back to San Diego, but Its been a comfy place to sleep each night. Tonight I was supposed to stay in Lordsburg NM, but nasty wind and Icy roads, have me spending the night in Deming. I was fighting a head wind most of the day, really awful driving today, so I'm happy to stop for the day. Tonight will be the biggest challenge, as its predicted to reach about 29F here tonight. I don't have any insulation in the ceiling yet, and the walls and floor are just 3/4 ply, hopefully the two dogs will provide enough heat to keep the three of us warm.

I think you'll be fine, Tom. 29 degrees is just a "Two Dog Night". There is nothing like a couple fur-buddies to keep you warm.

Stay safe on your trip!

Well, we just got back from our road trip. FL to AL MS LA TX NM CO AZ NM TX LA MS AL and back to FL. It was 5867.5 miles beginning to end and a great way to see our wonderful country and our people. Each night we arrived in a new camp until we reached the Grand Canyon where we spent 3 nights, then a new camp each night coming home.Image

The first half of May is the best time to take a trip like this. Not too cold and not too hot. We escaped the bad tornados and rainy weather by mere hours coming back through Texas.
Happy trails,

When I used to live near there, Newport, OR had an ordinance so you couldn't camp at their Walmart. It looked like it wasn't enforced very much at that time.

Casino's are a good bet too. Most don't charge and often have good food deals.

I normally use my teardrop when I contract out of town ( airplane mechanic) so far I have slept in it for a total of 15 months, mostly on BLM land, if you take in account hotel fees, I have not spent around 15,000 dollars, I also use truck stop showers, or if available some hangars have showers, coin laundromats on the weekends, and gone around 7800 miles with it, it is perfect for my needs, and when temps drop I can use two Coleman lanterns to keep my legs warm while cooking on a Coleman stove. I may need a bigger solar panel to keep the battery charged tough. Here are some of my "adventures"

My Little Guy has been used primarily as an overnight kind of place in a campground wherever I'm going. I guess that's another way of saying it's a tool that allows me to stay near the action rather than an activity in itself. But this past May, I used it to support my cross-country trip from Maryland to Nevada, followed by a week in Nevada and then back across country to home.

On the way west, slept in it exclusively until Colorado and then into a motel. Another motel night in Utah before meeting up then a week or so staying in it every night as we moved about Nevada touring ghost towns and then one night in a motel to wash the dust off in Montana on the way back home. Quite a few pictures of the trip (with some of the Little Guy) and some story are posted online at my blog, http://www.Happy-Tracks.com.

Martinjmpr from this forum was also on the trip (without his teardrop) and I've heard that one of the others will be adding a teardrop for the next group get-together.

The tear really does work well for a few hours shuteye in rest stops, or truckstops or Walmart parking lots.

Our trip last year was a month and we often stayed in KOA (the McDonald's of camp grounds) because they were convenient and easy to find and for the most part you know what you will find. The next major trip will use them less. This was written up by Nancy and is in a blog http://tomandnancygrover.blogspot.com/
The trip for next year is, subject to change with out notice, Teddy Roosevelt National Park and Yellowstone.

That pretty much sums up the essence of teardropping. Thanks for bringing us along.
