I do not cook by fire, I just go for the ambiance of a fire.
So I carry Duraflame logs.
Any ways, can't be bothered stoking up the flames after a few drinks.

You could always irradiate the wood before you transport it. The food companies do it to kill little critters. Why can't we?

I use plastic garbage bags.
I put the open bag in the trunk, then carefully place the wood inside.
Tie the end closed.
When we get to camp, open the bag and remove the pieces.

Of course you can't "pick the bag up"... but it/they contain the mess.

I used to use a milk crate (or two). I would put a garbage bag in it then load the wood standing up then close up the bag.

This is the exact reason I put the cargo rack on the from of my ttt now I just throw it in there and toss a bungee net over the top to hold it all in.

I drive/tow with a Honda Accord so space is limited...... I usually smile, wink and sweet talk one of the guys with trucks to bring some extra wood! teehee

But I have before brought a box or two.

I bring home a cardboard box from work and put wood in that , in the trunk. The cardboard burns good at the campsite and good for getting it started.

However the wood I bring is only enough for about one good fire.
