After I finish my galley, I hope to install the old bumper that came with the original trailer. Here's a photo of the bumper on the trailer before it was dismantled.

Here's a shot from last year of the new trailer under construction.

Kria, a lot of debate on the subject but for myself, I wouldn't be without one....I don't want my hatch to be the first to find that post/stump, I didn't notice to begin with...if you enter "bumper" in the search engine, you will get to read ALL of the previous discussions on the matter

After backing into a campsite marker, I'd say ya, they ar a prtty good idea.
The marker was set in pretty soft soil, so no visible damage to the tear or sign

I'm not sure how I would retro fit one, but take a look at the picts of the CampInn bumper. That the one I've seen that i like the best.

I'm no expert, but it seems that to access the galley and such AND keep your shins intact, that a "swing-down" bumper might be the ticket; held in the upright position when driving by T handle "aircraft pins" / pull-pins or the like, but kept in the down position when in camp? It could be made removable with a sort-of receiver set-up, too, but I just migrated to the swing-down when I was brainstorming.... (OK, not a storm in my case; more like a shower or drizzle)

I plan to make a wooden bumper from a 2x6, and attach it to the trailer frame using the stake pocket brackets that came with it. The theory is that if the bumper gets a good whack, the brackets will bend and/or partially collapse, absorbing a lot of the impact. Then I can remove them and replace them with new brackets (the trailer came with 8 brackets, I think). Do you guys think that would work?

The bottom bumper is bolted to the frame of the metal trailer. The two upper bumpers are bolted to the wooden frame that forms a deck. This deck is bolted to the frame and the walls are bolted to the the sides of the deck. The Zephyr is build a little differently in that is has a full 2x4 framed deck under it.
