Differences between HF trailers?

Postby Gerdo » Wed Aug 30, 2006 4:38 pm

Has anyone noticed what the differences are with the different weight HF trailers? What makes one carry more weight that the others?

I have the 1175 and the 1800. The two trailers are very similar.

The main difference is the style of the C channel used for the cross members and the tongue.

The 1175 is made from C channel with an "open" C.

The 1800 is also C channel but there is a 1/4 inch return on the C channel.

Both trailers have the same size axle/bearings, but different hubs.

The 1175 has 4 lug wheels, the 1800 has 5 lug.

Both have 12 inch wheels.

I have never seen the lighter trailer (990?) so I can't say much about it.

My question is - does the 1175 have only one bearing per hub? The pdf file indicates that. While the 1800 has 2 bearings per hub.

Can anyone confirm that.

Thanks

You're looking at the parts list which on the 1175 is incorrect. Believe me, both have four bearings per hub. On both trailers, the hubs come with the two inner bearings installed, you have to install the two outer ones.

Joseph-

Thanks for the clarification. After 1600 miles I guess it's time to clean up and repack the bearings................

Question, Are the inner and outer bearings on the HF 1175 trailer the same size?

Why?.... IF you initially packed bearings with quality grease and did it properly the "packing job" should be good for 10's of thousand of miles. If you are of concerned that bearing may be bad, then replace "China" bearings with quality Timken or Fafner bearing... Do you clean and repack wheel bearings on front of tow vehicle every 1600 miles?

Dale-

Thanks - i guess it is my overall concern about the bearings. As for the replacement do you know what the mfg stock numbers are for the replacement.

Thanks

I think Timken bearings are now made in China. I remember seeing a news report where they closed down one of their plants, which pretty much killed the town.
