Tractor Supply 4 FT. X 8 FT. CARRY-ON TRAILER

Postby cwm » Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:51 pm

Has anybody used the Carry-On 4x8 trailer from tractor supply? How does it compare to the HF and Red trialers?

This Trailer is one of the 5 most touted trailers on this forum cwm.

However you could look at these threads from the forum to reflect on
some opinions of the past. http://tinyurl.com/o3tzh

*These trailers can be ordered in other sizes too if you can find a
co-operative sales person. The key here is that many threads
hint at trouble getting quotes or the right person to help you.
Read the threads above please before you buy.

I am sure there will be others along to give you their experiences as well~

The TS trailer is a nice trailer, I bought several last year for my 2006 model. The problems I have with them are their not a precision piece of equipment. By this I mean these trailers were designed to be utility trailers for someone to just throw a piece of 4X8 plywood in the channel and go. And that's exactly what they are. A sheet of plywood fits in there real easy, with out cutting it. With a 1/2" gap at one end, 3/8" on one side then at the other end its 1/2", then 1/4. By the time your done you've got a 49-49 1/2" wide trailer that's 97" long. And that's not 4X8.

Here's a link sent to me by another member.

That being known..I'd still use them again.

Now the HF trailer can be narrowed to 46 1/2 (or what ever) for a trailer body that covers the frame. And I see now where there coming with 5 lug wheels.

Happy Trails

Thats what I mean Kens. As long as you build over the frame...its fine. Its just not a 4X8 frame. Other than that, its a great frame.

one advantage to the TSC trailer is the bearings & seals are standard and not metric.
That makes it easy to find replacements when needed.

When I was looking for a chassis for my tear I was real interested in the same trailer. My neighbor had one for sale that would have worked but he talked me out of it when he stated that the single tube tongue shimmied a lot when towing. I now have the "A" frame type tongue on my tear. They have similar trailers at Home Depot & Lowes and the tongue is bolted on, it may be OK for some but not me. IMHO :) Danny

I'll confirm that! Yes, mine shimmys when I hit bumps but I've learned to live with it. It was a little unnerving at first. I still like the looks of the single tube tongue. I suppose if it was made of stiffer material, say a 3x3 tube instead of a 2x2, it would fix the problem.

Does anybody know what the wall thickness is on that 2x2 tube? I think the problem is that the cross bar that ties the tonge to the frame is too flimsy and maybe the 2x2 tube is not thick enough.
