What axle?

Postby mtnair » Tue Nov 28, 2006 1:07 pm

We've decided on a 5 x 10. I had purchased the Kuffle Creek 10' plans about a year ago. Those plans are for a 4 ft. wide trailer you can build. The Generic Benroy plans are for purchasing a trialer.

My husband is going to build the trailer. If I am going to order an axle for a 5 ft. wide tear what would I order?

It will be around 73in. This is just an an approximation, because there are a couple things that are dependent on your particular situation. You have to find out how much back spacing (offset) your wheel/tire combination have. You also have to decide how much space you want between the tire and wall.

Your best bet is to get a torsion axle from Southwest Wheel. You tell them how wide the chassis is, and they custom build the axle for you.

Andrew has a good drawing of this... does anyone have the picture handy?

Yep, those are the ones I was thinking of. Thanks Andrew...

I wonder if Southwest Wheel can give us a hub face to hub face dimension that is slightly larger than the chassis width would suggest???
