HF Trailer Frame Question

Postby Toytaco2 » Tue Dec 11, 2007 9:44 pm

I'm brand new to this site although I've been reading it for a while. I've been considering using our old pop-up camper as a base for a new teardrop build. I have a 5'wide x 5'high x 9' long Benroy profile in mind. The heavy duty Harbor Frieght trailer (1,740 lb wt capacity) is on sale through tomorrow for $269 and I don't think I can modify my existing frame and buy new wheels & tires, etc. for too much less than that (it needs a new coupler also).

I hate for my first actual question to be a dumb one, but, I don't have much time to research. So here it is: Are the demensions of the 4x8 HF frame sufficient for a teardrop that is 5x9 and 5' high (the wt. capacity of 1,740lbs would be more than enough). I understand I would have to build out over the wheels.

Sure!

There have been lots of 5 X 10 trailers built on the HF 1740 frame . . . . and a few on lesser frames as well

I have the same HF trailer frame on my build and I'm 5'-9" wide over the wheels and 10' long.

;)

Good luck on the build.

Is this frame a "bolt together" like the other HF frames?

Yeah, the 1740 is all bolt together . . . . but then I welded everything afterwards, just to make sure it stays tight
