Trailers with brakes

Postby eamarquardt » Sat Apr 12, 2008 9:14 pm

Any trailer I build will have brakes, breaks, and more stopping power than the minimum than you think you might be able to get away with. I came down a mountain in a Ford Taurus towing a realatively light tent trailer one time. It scared the heck out of me and I'll never do that again.

There you have it: "the world according to Gus".

Cheers,

Gus

You will probably have to have brackets welded on to be able to bolt the brake backing plates to the axles though, so even with a complete kit, it's not a simple install . . . . unless you want to buy an entire new axle complete with brakes . . . . .

that will only work if the HF axle has a brake flange welded to the axle i.e. http://www.etrailer.com/pc-tpbamf~4-34.htm

Even better, to not put yourself into a position of needing them in the first place  :? :R

The way I drive, if I ever come across the need for brakes on a light trailer, I've got one HECK of a lot more pressing problems!  :hammerhead: :cigar:
