Source for Scotty Trailer Design Plans?

Postby dmckruit » Fri Aug 02, 2013 11:43 am

Does anybody know where I can find design plans for a Scotty Trailer? Specifically the trailer frame first, then utimately dimensions for the body of a mid "70's type Highlander. I know I can probably buy a old one to restore, but most of them are expensive as is and you usually have to rebuild them up from the ground anyway. So as an alternative option, I am weighing the idea of just building one from scratch.

Any thoughts or sources of information would be welcome.

I have the following 2-D drawings that are reasonably close to a (late-60s?) Highlander.

However I should stress I have nothing more and certainly not a frame design.

Well thanks for that - I had wondered what the central tongue member connected to..... and the answer is pretty much nothing!

I cloned a '65 Serro Scotty, pretty much a shorter version of the Highlander. I copied the dimensions of a buddies frame that he was restoring. Here's what I built for a frame. Doug

I checked my file on the Nomad. Somehow the scale drawing isn't there, as it was larger than 8.5 x 11. I'm old school, actually draft mine up using a T square and pencil. I'll dig a bit and see what I can find. What size are you wanting to build...Highlander or Serro Scotty? Doug

Dave-

How close are you to Bedford?

My friend Rose has a few Scottie's you could look at for dimensions, etc.

Cheers,

Coop

Check with Nancy Kroes at http://www.nationalserroscotty.org/ - if anyone would have plans she/they would.

Coop,

I'm about 2 hours from Bedford. However, I do work with a guy whose family still lives there. I looked at a 13' one in New Stanton last week. It was a rubble of a heap but the frame still looked okay. $50 for all. Too small for what i was looking for, plus i would have had to tear it down to haul it away. I want a highlander on the cheap.

I guess i will be seeing you in a couple weeks at Cooks Forest!

Len, that's funny but I would love if you took a tape to that frame and gave me some measurement's. I'm looking for the length of the side and middle tubes and the width if available. I'm thinking about a serro scotty like the scotty your building . However I know I wont be able to do as great of a job as you. :)
