Has anyone successfully (and conveniently) relocated the axle on a 5' x 8' Northern Tool trailer to the top side of the leaf springs? I narrowed the frame width per the generic Benroy plans and then had to redrill the pocket holes on the top the U channel that houses the axle stubs to fit over the pins on the underside of the springs. This works, but I would prefer to lower the trailer. The top side of the springs have a nut that interferes with placing the axle on top as well as the axle stubs protrude slightly below the webs of the U channel and would prevent it from lying flush, assuming that one would keep the axle orientation the same and not rotate it 180 degrees. I guess I could cut and drill two squares of metal to fit over the nut and then grind the axle stubs to flush, but am hesitant to do that. Thank you.
