Leaf springs

On the axle for my trailer I need to move the leaf springs out farther then the recommended center on the axles. Has anyone done this before?

Out toward the hub?

The limit will likely be tire sidewall clearance with the frame or cabin wall, but the manufacturer's spec.'s are probably there for a reason. I would want to know more from them before going outside their bounds, especially if you are anywhere near the rated capacity. Remember that leverage can have a rapid effect on the forces involved.

It may also be that it is just not practical to get a good weld on the spring perch if it is too close to the brake flange.
