This beast was built out of the rear end of a Dodge pickup. After a bit of research and guesswork, I narrowed it down to a 1960 or so Dodge D100.

She is heavy, but very strong and tows well with a load. I would much appreciate opinions on the useability of this trailer as a base for a teardrop, and whatever suggestions that may come my way.

Thanks!

Gross over kill, weight does cost you in the end and other than a bit of wow/novelty factor I would go lighter weight.

You will never have to pack wheel bearings ! :laughter:

I had a 65 ford p/u trailer just like that for over 3 decades. It went a gazillion miles and hauled a million pounds of this and that.

As a foundation for a tiny trailer I have to agree it's just too heavy and also too tall.

There is mine hiding in the background with my tool boxes and the home made roof.

No way I would use that as a base for a TD. Too heavy.

Thanks for responding and confirming my suspicions.... too heavy indeed. Bummer, i like that trailer, we have been together for years

When I first found this site, it was all about the trailer. Now it is all about the teardrop. Time to move this trailer on and find something more suitable. I am liking the Timbren Axleless option, is it possible to buy only a frame? I will head down to the local welder to see what he can do for me...

Cheers and thanks again.

I would use it, I have a 2012 Ram 1500 with the Hemi. Not too heavy for me, just needs different springs and maybe a quick lowering job to make it look cool. Also, I would try to reuse the fenders for the TD.

Check craigslist. Look in the boat section. You can find a trailer for not much $. I bought a vanson boat trailer from a guy in eagle for $125. If you want to build new, Henderson wheel built me a new 2k torsion axle for $190.
