HOW MUCH WEIGHT

Postby garyc1955 » Fri Jan 15, 2016 10:43 pm

I want to build a canned ham trailer.I bought an old pop up frame that measures ten and a half feet by six and a half.Twelve inch wheels and has brakes.Only info for trailer is Pleasure Time built in 1968.No weight indications at all.How much weight will this carry safely?i think my build might weigh 900 -1200 pounds.Any guesses will be appreciated,Thanks Gary

My 1989 Jayco pop-up that I am modifying has the same approximate dimensions (7X10) and the same 12" wheels. It has 2,205 lbs GVW listed on the VIN tag and the original rig weighed in at about 1,400 lbs. It is constructed of 3" C-channel. Your frame should be very similar and should easily carry your planned weight.

Both of my pop ups came with 1500 lb axles, good enough for most tears.
