Moving axle, cross-members on Northern Tool 5 x 8

Postby TheOtherSean » Sat Mar 12, 2016 10:56 pm

Has anybody had experience moving the axle back or moving the cross-members forward (or back) on the Ironton 5 x 8 trailer kit from Northern Tool? From the photos and online manual it looks like a matter of simply drilling new holes in the main rails to bolt them to. But if anybody actually has experience it would be wonderful to hear.

I haven't, but I have one and I'm using on my current build and I can say that it looks pretty straight forward. Just move those brackets with some new holes, and bolt them up. Shouldn't be that difficult.

I extended my 5x8 to a 5x10 and moved the axle back 17" to compensate. It is as simple as you say. I have pictures in my build journal of the frame not that they show the new holes. Search for "the annex" or use link in signature line.

Thank you both for your replies, Brian and John. Sounds pretty good.
