Also, what is everyone's thoughts on spring vs torsion? I originally wanted to do torsion axles as they ride smoother and have better ground clearance, but it sounds like they don't hold up as well on washboard roads, and spring axles work together going over bumps and rocks.


Unlike spring suspension, from what I've read torsion axle failure is next to nil. Never heard of it on this forum. Unlike spring suspension, the wheels on a torsion axle ride independently over bumps.

A broken spindle or damaged bearings & spindle could happen on either. However, unlike a spring axle, you can order a Dexter torsion axle with replaceable spindles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qfe_5J1nPO8

If you're really worried about it, you could carry a complete spare axle bolted to the underside of your trailer.
