HF Trailer Recall

Postby WizardOfOdds » Sun Oct 16, 2016 8:46 am

Just got a recall notice from HF. Nothing too major, but it looks like if your HF trailer (Jan 2006 - April 2016) used light kit 93861 (like my 1760# 4x8 model 94564), then you mail in a post card and they will provide you a repair kit. The letter indicates that item 93861 "... may have an incorrectly postioned rear lamp bracket ...".

The letter also indicates if your (Jan 2013 - April 2016) trailer used light kit 69624, it "... may have lenses that are not compliant".

Anyone else get this notice??

Bought my trailer in Jan 2006 so hopefully it was built before the ones in the recall. Haven't received any notice yet. I never used the lights that came with my trailer. Used 'em on a utility trailer several years later. Still work OK... Thanks for the info Wiz.

I also bought one in 2006, it was a SKU model 6464, I suspect yours is also. That model is NOT listed as one of the recall trailers. In my opinion, it was a much better trailer too.

Don't remember (if I ever knew??) the SKU on my trailer. It was listed at that time as 1800# instead of the 1740 or 1720 later trailers had. In any case, it's done well & I'm glad I bought it...

I didn't get a notice, but filled out the online for, sometime in January. I received the LED replacement kit this week. Four new lights and a new wiring harness. My connector was getting a little beat up, so this works out well for me.

I know what I'll be doing this weekend. It's a ridiculous use of the 4-post lift, but why not?

this should be on the front page under special notices! I never would have known about the recall if I hadn't stumbled on this page!

THANK you!

When I got my repair kit from HF, I was going to just swap out the light assemblies and keep the same wiring. That is NOT GONNA HAPPEN! The wiring on my trailer corroded away to NOTHING! I cannot even get enough to splice. Looks like the weekend camping is turning into a weekend rewiring the trailer lights. If you have the HF trailer and you are having ligt problems, be ready for a bit of a 'do over'.

Didn't yours come with a complete light and wiring harness?

Just got done completely rewiring my trailer. Wire corroded to nothing in a year. Not HF but still Chinese. Must have been a crappy bunch of wire from some supplier. I replaced it with marine rated tinned copper wire kit from e trailer.

Good idea. I'm just gonna use plastic loom on the wire it came with.

It'll be a fall project of wire brushing, sanding and repainting since the red HF paint turned pink after the first season.

If the budget permits, I might swap out the tired exterior plywood floor with expanded metal.
