Fenders

My trailer is on order. I didn’t give much thought about fenders. It’s 5” wide and I intended to just build between them. In hind sight I’m thinking of going 6’ wide and building to roughly the axle width (including tires). I’m still in a window to request no fenders. I found the attached picture and I like the look. What do I need to consider to protect the tires/trailer with out installing the Steel fenders?
