Axle rating

I need a SWAG, this 4 X 8 trailer I bought has a inverted U shaped axle and the axle only goes about a foot in from the wheel then just empty U channel to the other side where the other 1 ft axle is, about what weight should I be safe at? I am building a box with windows only, no galley.

According to Northern tool mine will do 1950 lbs but according to my mechanic he suggests keeping it around 1000lbs as he has seen plenty of them bend.
