Benroy Classic - Trailer Width Shortening?

Postby Pierre » Tue Mar 28, 2006 1:39 pm

Hi All

I am still going over and over the planning stages of building a Benroy Generic, and noticed that the plans say that you reduce the width of the trailer to 58 1/2". What will happen if I just keep my red trailer 5x8 and make the 1 1/2" adjustment on the width. Why do you narrow the width?

Pierre,
The generic Benroy plans call for shotening the width so that the sides of the trailer will be covered by the outer layer of the wall. I'm building the Generic on a Redtrailer but I didnt take anything off of the width. I'm building it on top of the trailer.

The width was narrowed so that it could be covered in baltic birch plywood, which comes in 5' wide sheets.

Of course, if you are using luan, you can make it any width you want.

And if you are building on top of the chassis, you can leave the trailer stock also!

Actually I am refering to a stock trailer, as in "unmodified" trailer.

Thanks Mike

Being a South African living in the USA, I have to get used to the terminology. Thanks again for your help.

I built my trailer 5' wide and put the sides over the frame.

As Mike said, I used luan so the extra width was not a problem.
