;) Love those pictures!!
So how would I go about putting those on and are they less trouble than cleaning or replacing springs

Miriam-

Here's the skinny on retro-fitting shocks.

http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/mon_retrokit.cfm

I think it's still a good idea to replace check TSC or http://tinyurl.com/fpurr or refurb your springs.

Cheers,

Coop

Gage , yup just like dat! 8)

Miriam , from reading other posts here , it seems that it is better to have shocks with springs as it makes for a smoother ride . ( espacialy if you have weak springs ) I have a tortion axle so I don't need to worry about this( nana nan booboo) :sneakers: :sneakers: :rofl2: :rofl2:

As far as mounting them , I think the info is here , someone will step up .

Keep up the hard work!!

Are you still behaving ? Huh? Huh?

Okkkkk. Hummm. I'm thinking springs. There doesn't seem to be a good place to hook some shocks.

If you look at the top left you can see a broken weld too.

Mike has a friend who welds and he is going to catch it and the corner that looks thin. I will see what he thinks. (farm boy) Maybe go ahead and put a bar across to facilitate shocks. $>

Boo! Of course I'm behaving, I just have to figure out how to say nyloc pecans. 8)

Miriam,

I recently replaced the springs on a boat trailer, they were tired, rusty and looked like yours. I got replacements (3 leaf) for about $13.00 a piece. Now if I could just remember where.... anyway, I was looking for the most inexpensive way to go, and it works well for what it is. New shocks don't really take the place of springs that are no longer working to their designed potential. Whata ya think?

Nuts!

I just figured out how to do that the easy way! :D

Well Steve, $13 sounds a lot better than $40 and no welding. Now if I can just find my cheater bar to get off the rusty bolts. Wonder if I could get away with buying a compressor.

I'm behaving! That is for sure. 8)

Absolutely right - or, with a touch more modesty, I agree!

None of this takes the place of getting broken welds fixed either.

Dampers will improve the ride of the trailer, to stop it bouncing so much over bumps. They won't fix any faults.

As Gage's photo demonstrates, dampers don't need to be vertical to work. I fitted a pair to the rear axle of on old car (it was built with lever dampers) that worked well and they were sitting at least 45 degrees off vertical.

I think I saw trailer leaf springs at Tractor Supply. Not positive though.

Miriam, try www.jcwhitney.com. look for "helper leaf springs" in the suspension department.
