5 x 8 trailer frame needed

Postby Tiki Dude » Tue Apr 11, 2006 4:14 pm

I am about to begin building my 2nd Tear and would like to find a 5 x 8 trailer frame at a reasonable cost. I also have a friend interested in one as well. Any ideas? I'm in the Northwest and would like to purchase it in WA or Northern OR.

Do you have a Tractor Supply co. close by?
They can get a 5x8 no floor trailer from Carry-on trailers. It needs to be special ordered.
Call Carry-on their phone number is in their web page. The trailer is not listed on their web page so you have to call to get the price and part number. They have 5 factory’s one may be close to you? You may get it directly from them? :D

You could take a chance and see if Freeway Trailers in Fife would order a custom one for you. I saw one there last summer that someone had ordered. I went to the mfr in Tacoma and it took 3 months. If I were needing a chassis again I would learn how to weld it myself, that way it would be just as I wanted it. :D Danny

Redbluff CA is the closest. That is only 10 hours away. (each way)

You could always hook the teardop up & run down & pick it up if it comes unassembled.

Harbor Freight is now selling a 5x8. I have a 20% off email coupon if you want it forwarded.

Red Bluff is only a short distance south of Redding. The Dam Gathering is May 4-7 http://www.teardrops.net/13thDG.html, you could always show up for that and pick the trailer up at TSC in Red Bluff.

I was at the Everett HF tonight. They had no idea what was talking about when I asked about it.

That's a nice frame. I wish I knew about it when I built my 5x8 tear.

This link is just what I needed thanks. I was given a trailer but due to age and rust didn't know manufacture or weight rating. Now I can match it up with these it has the foldable tongue, (which will be welded) just got to figure if it has enough weight range. Has anyone build on one of these.

If Redding CA is not too far away you could contact Grant to see if he would make your frame. http://www.teardrops.net/lilbear/trailers.html

After thorough inspection my trailer appears to be the firs in the list of Red Trailer Spec. with a max load rating of 965 lbs and gross vehicle wt rating of 1180. The spec on the 3 trailers listed are all the same except the tires. QUESTION: Can I use this trailer with an axle change? What modifications would it take to increase weight load. OR should I start from scratch with another trailer? sorry for the long post, but anxious to get my build started :hammerhead:
