Jim, because you don't experience much compression in the axle, does your teardrop just bounce along behind you down the road? Or does it still provide some suspension even tho it doesn't ride low.

    Homeroast,
My teardrop has a 1500# Dexter axle with a 22.5* down start angle. The trailer weighs 880#. 13% of the weight is on the hitch. That leaves 766# on the axle, 1/2 of the axle rating.
The 'H' dimension for that axle with no load is 3.52" & 1.22" with a full load. At rest with no other load the trailer settles to an 'H' measurement of 2.31". That equals 1.21" compression with 1/2 load. Rides just fine.

Homeroast, the trailer I sold not too long ago had torsion axles also, it was a 45 degree down bubble, that trailer was heavyas hell and the axle did settle down about 1½ inches, measured by jacking up the tear to change a tire and having to go up that high before the wheel got light, but anyways..nope..rode like it was on a magic carpet back there..the damn mountaineer bounced more then the trailer did.

now, when it hit a good bump on the drivers side, i could see the travel of the axle up and then back down without any bounce.
