I started out using a Lincoln SP 135 Plus using MIG with 75-25 gas. Found out it was not getting hot enough to make a good weld (cold welds). However, when I moved to flux core wire the thing took off. The welds were awesome (if I do say so myself). I could tell a big difference. So, its flux cored from here on out.

One major help for all electric welding...those newer " self-darkening " type helmet lenses !

I struggled for years with the old style " pitch dark " lenses...then I sprung for one of those self-darkening type helmets..

No more arc striking in places I did not intend to weld because I can see the project and place the tip of the rod exactly where I want it !

The helmets start at about $100 + or -.....and worth every penny..

Just my two cts...

You said it H/T. I welded for almost 25 years before I would spring for the self darkening helmets. I wished I would have bought them long time ago. They are fantastic!!!! I can see where I am welding now. 8) 8)

Yes, the Lincoln SP 135 Plus is a 110 unit. I have it set on a 20 amp fuse which seems to be enough since I have not thrown the fuse. It's fairly small and portable at about 40-50 lbs.
