We need more of a shocker title than that! ;)

I like this title.

The only other option would be "Things that can kill you camping." Add unvented propane or kerosene heaters, hanging raw meat in your teardrop (bears)...

I have to say it was a little unsettling to see how many people chimed in that had either done this to themselves or would have because they didn't know.

You think about the sheer tonnage of information that has been given out on this forum over the years and somehow this all too important fact has slipped through the cracks. You'd think it would be as commonly known as EZ UP's for shelter.

Glad it's a stickie now with a precise warning in the title.

Just another reason to spend hours on end reading this forum! That's how I learned!

I crack my door windows and roof vent ALWAYS to keep a flow, and I also have the window unit AC plus a vent "Register" on the galley wall to share the galley air with the cabin. This is done so the AC runs longer to clear out the humid air, as well as the warm air, in addition to supplying the cabin with fresh air when the AC is off.

Thanks for this, I never would have thought a teardrop could be that air tight.
Saying thanks doesn't seem enough since this may have just saved somone.

Children have been known to suffocate in wooden toy boxes. Two children died in Somerset County, Pennsylvania about three years back when they hid in the toy box. Parents were charged. Don't know of the outcome not that it matters.

My trailer is so tiny and there is no real galley that I leave the hatch open an inch or so. Since I only have one door, I want another way out...just in case. Keeping me from suffocating is a bonus.

Thanks for all the information everyone. I must admit that the huge amount of information in this forum is overwhelming! I've not started my TD build yet but some of the topics I've been reading kinda make my terrified of building since there are soooooo many things to remember and consider in a build.

Well that is true of any build I guess. I kept my mind under control by breaking it up into sections. I mean you kind of half too. It's like building the interior cabinets was a whole project whithin itself, same for building the Frame, floor, doors etc, but I just approached these separately and it made it easier to wrangle! Good luck!

Thanks Thomas - hey it was good meeting and talking with you at the LCG gathering.

That sounds logical and yes I'll have to break up each section as it's own project. But I do know you still have to think ahead with each "build project" and plan for things to come in other section builds too.

One thing yall might consider... Many of you have ideas for making sure your TD is not air-tight by adding vents, etc. I think this is a bad idea - at least from my perspective.

I've always gotta have air moving when I sleep. The ceiling fan is always on in our bedroom. And when we go to sleep in the TD, the roof vent is always open and usually at least one window cracked (and one of my projects this winter is to add some resisters to the FanTastic fan to slow it way down). So being air-tight is not an issue for us while sleeping.

Quite a few of the campsite we've visited require driving down stretches of dirt road. By the time we get to the campsite, the TD is COATED in dust. I know I'm a stickler for cleanliness, but if the SS had open vents on it anywhere - let alone the rear! - the cabin would be filled with dust! Not my idea of good times.

I like that my SS TD stays dry and clean no matter where we tow it!
