Maybe a bit slower than some other rigs, but it gets me there. Waiting until it gets a bit warmer to paint the trailer olive drab too.

Ok, not impressive... but...

It is a slant six, runs on propane. Carries 65 gallons of fuel, it's a 4x4, and am in the process of adding a small lift (about 2 inches), winch, and have lockers for both differentials, front and back, 4.10 or 4.56 gears, 32 inch tires, The engine is modified with larger valves, porting, 10.5:1 compression, custom ground cam, CA200 propane mixer, Distributorless crank-triggered ignition, controlled by Megajolt (programmable timing controller), headers and dual exhaust. Soon to have 120 amp alternator, about 250 amp-hours of battery capacity ( about 3 times normal vehicle), 5000 lb hitch, and if I can figure out how, a winch in the BACK as well. Also, I plan on getting my ham license and equipping the truck with not just a CB, but also ham 2 meter, and a cellular internet connection and a car PC (yeah, built in real computer).

Nope, don't intend to make it look much better than it does. Offroading tends to make all that look bad real fast. Other things of interest are resealing the windows, doors, and adding sound insulation to the cab, and having the seat rebuilt just for my big backside.

On the road, at a steady 55-60, I can get 14 mpg, and the range is well in excess of 800 miles. Currently, gasoline at the lowest priced station in my area is 3.66 a gallon, and propane is 2.00 even. You can drive 10,000 miles and the oil stays mostly clean. Off highway, I get about 10 to 12, which means VERY long adventures without any worry about fuel, you can take a week of exploring 200 or 300 miles of wilderness and still have a half tank. Not to mention, heat and whatever else, in abundant supply.

Once I complete it all, it will be capable of going most places a jeep would normally be required, except for its excessive width and of course, it's quite a bit heavier and can't go nearly as steep of sidehill.

Heya... I dont' have my lift or lockers in yet... I'm going to make a very big effort to get that done before the April JD outing... And a compressor, too, so I can air down decently.

I have bad splines in my front driveshaft, so gotta fix that, too. It's amazing how the UNUSED splines wear out so bad, while the used ones ( the back) are in great shape.

MegaJolt? Cool. I was one of the early followers of the MegaSquirt open source stand alone fuel injection project. Version 2.2 for my Conquest Tsi. Does the MegaJolt use the Ford Escort EDIS (?) spark components? They were just developing that as an add on board for MegaSquirt... when I wandered off to other things. :oops:

Got trees where you wheel? That tall rack would have to go here in New England. Too many trees would try to reach out and grab it!

Good luck with all of your plans. Old Dodges are cool. I had a 2WD '72 Ramcharger with a 318 and 3 on the tree for awhile. Very reliable truck. :thumbsup:

The EDIS is from a 6 cylinder - the 4.0, I believe, that I have. I use a Chrysler coil, rather than a Ford one, so I can use wires that don't require strange clip retainers.

The rack is there because I run a wireless internet service, and need to carry the ladders regularly, for installs, service, etc. I can remove it in a few minutes.

And, I chose the Megajolt because it was cheaper than a MS system, and all I needed was to create my own custom timing curves... I also don't like the distributor getting wet all the time, nor the lousy distributor caps you get these days, which arc easily. Since I'm running propane, it needs more spark power, and so I abandoned the distributor.

I have had mine now for a little over 12 years, best job I have ever had. Sold mine to a phone company about 6 years, still working for them in a way. Still build the access points on top of mountains and have a ball with it. I am in the Socal area, where are you?

I hope you take the first comment as it was intended, a lot of work to start, but down the road it pays off. My internet is down, I heard the more in the first two years than I heard Hello. :x

Sorry for the HiJack, but wireless guys are few and far between.

I'm almost to year 8 anniversary, and still doing it... Eastern Oregon.

And yeah, nobody calls to say "Man, nothing wrong, I was just wondering who to shoot the breeze with..." Nope, you never hear from them for years and then "Hey, my internet doesn't work and I'm desperate!" Or "Hey, my internet went down last week, and I'm wondering when you're going to get back up..." So you go visit and discover they kicked the wall wart for THEIR wireless router out of the socket...

I cover very rural areas, mostly, lots of fields and farms and a few towns.

Places nobody else will go, that's me. The truck is a project that when done will assure I can get to everyone, every site, every day of the year.

That just happens to make it convenient to go backcountry exploring, too :)

I run around the southwest in a 1996 Chevy Silverado 4X4 K1500. It has 155,000 miles on her, just breaking it in.... lol. I have had it since new in '96. Great truck. !!
