Looks like a nice trip. My kind of place. That is a patch of the US I have long wanted to visit.

Generally we refer to the area indicated as the "ION" for Idaho, Oregon, Nevada. I would pronounce it like "eye-own" There is an ION heritage museum in Jordan Valley Oregon, very near the southeastern corner of Oregon. Lee

Hey Lee, good to see you on the boards. We met in Sep at Twain and Tears gathering. I am the crazy old coot with a hole in his floor. How is your build going?

In 2008 I took the Owyhee back country road and ended up in Jordan Valley. Then went to Silver city. That was some road.

Yes great part of Oregon / the country to explore. Following the Owyhee river, exploring the Steens and Alvord desert are planned for future trips.

I have long thought about going to Alvord. Have not made it yet.

Scott,

Did you take a pic of your camp later that evening? Is it in your album?

Randy, I hear lot of good things about it, trying a land sailer is one of the things on my list when I go.

Mike, Here is a Trip Report from the adventure.

Scott.

I been looking around for info on that area and I found this place.

Lesile Gulch

Looks like a nice place. And my Suzukies can get my TD to the campground. You guys went a few places I would have trouble with.

Randy,

Yes Leslie Gulch looks interesting, here is a Trip Report I've seen on it.

The BLM web-site has some good info on the Owyhee Uplands Back Country Byway

That trip report has really whetted my curiosity to see Leslie Gulch area. I did the Owyhee Back Country Road in 2008. I started from the east end and came out at Jordan Valley. Road was not difficult at all. Just a long gravel road, no big deal. But I suppose if a person takes some of the branches could add some adventure. After Jordan Valley I took off from Highway 95 and went to Silver City Idaho. Now that road was an adventure. But my Official Idaho State Road Map shows the road and I figure any road on an Official State Road Map is fair game for me to try. I made it but it is the most adventurous one I have been on that is on an Official State Map. Well there are some out in the Utah desert that probably is right up there.

:D

Yes, Leslie Gulch does look interesting. Thanks for the info on the Owyhee Back Country Byway, yes I'm sure the branches down to the Owyhee can be "fun". Going to Silver City sounds like fun. While exploring eastern Oregon, much of the time my GPS says "Route Calculation Error, no roads ..." :)
