Well my wife says I'm obsessed!!!!

Postby srfrcrux » Mon Sep 11, 2006 4:10 pm

Hello All,
Thanks for being understanding of my new found obsession!!! The teardrop I mean...4X8 woody that I'm planning to build w/ the K.I.S.S. model.
The reason for my build is that I love the outdoors and in order to keep visiting them and making the wife happy, the kids, and the wife happy, I decided to build a drop.
Really, my wife and I both love the outdoors and the drop is going to be used on our many road trips and climbing adventures (hopefully :D )...
I have many questions so please bare w/me and hopefully I will be able to return the favor to a newbie when I'm not completely wet behind the ears!
If you want to know more about me you could visit www.myspace.com/thelains ...but thats a big IF, eh?

PS-The pic is me climbing an invert at the local climb gym Rok Haus in Lafayette, LA

Welcome Srfrcrux
Good luck on your build. I am Billy Landry from Franklin, LA.
I have not built anything yet, but I am close to getting started. After reading everything in the foroum, I have decided to make mine 5 ft. wide.

Yes, I believe a 5x8 would be nice, but I plan on keeping it as simple as possible since I might be heading to Mongolia in the next year and half...
though I might get hooked and depending on how hard I make this project... make another shortly after this one... but don't tell the wife!!!

Hi Sr...

Welcome to the forum...

You wanna keep it simple? forgo the insulation, the inside skin, the electrical, the plumbing and the cabinets.

Build a shell, put in a shelf, and you're ready to go camping.

You can always add the other stuff later... That was my plan on the Escape Hatch, and I finished it in about 4 1/2 weekends. You've probably already seen the pics, but if not, they are here...

mikeschn,
I do want to have some electricity...and maybe solar (because it seems interesting and more off-the-grid) I had seen a parts list for solar, I believe of yours, but do you have a pictures of it?
Thanks...

My solar parts list consists of a 65 Watt solar panel, and a controller.

This is the best pic I have at the moment...

Nice to meet all of you,

Mike...or anyone what is the minimum solar panel you could get away with (to keep your battery charged)?
I'll try to see what I can find on the solar thread...

srfrcrux

Mike has a site he mentioned that has some information about sizing a solar setup. Keep in mind that the link is for an "OFF GRID" calculation for solar panel sizing. THe information is still related to what you are going to use for what length of time and at what power usage. This is the link click the blue lettering for the link.

The information that you might want to look at also on the same site is here.

Welcome to the obsessed!

Congrats on your anniversary. Now it is time to go out and buy a new mirror!

Just kidding!!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Welcome
Like MJ said, take her to a gathering and let her see one. Then there are the people and the great cooks. She will get the bug and you will have to hold her back. 8)
Enjoy
