You think that was harsh? I was just stating facts, no harshness meant. Sorry I offended you with my straight forward response.

Being that San Diego is only 14 miles from Mexico and what the media would report, most stolen vehicles from San Diego county end up in Mexico or in a container for countries overseas.
Unfortunately from the length of time this teardrop has been missing my bet is that teardrop is no longer in the USA.

safe-guards?
cut off a hitch ball and lock into the receiver, whenever not attached to the tow vehicle?

anything else we can do?

Nothing will guarantee your trailer can't be stolen, but here are some hitch locks that will help deter, or slow the process down. Some products are better than others.
