Hello to all

Postby BigRay » Mon Jul 10, 2017 8:55 am

Hello to all, I'm Ray. Staying cool in South Texas. I've visited the site for years and have enjoyed all the unique people and projects. I just "finished" my 4-month project that only took 3 1/2 years. I started it when my health took a nose dive, so I could only work on it whenever my daughters could help. Of course it's not really finished, but it's complete enough to use while we continue to work on it.

Looks like a very large trailer. What are the dimensions?

6x12, 4' tall folded, open it's about 7'2" to 6'4" so the roof is slanted. It has v-nose and v-tail and tows very nice, usable when closed, has a/c, kitchen, bathroom, currently weighs 1017.

You can see more photos in my album, I plan of posting a build page soon.

Welcome, BigRay!

Looks like plenty of room to swing a cat in there, even closed if you don't start going with vertical swings

What part of south Texas? I'm north of Corpus.

San Antonio. Part of my initial plans for this thing was to build it to tolerate the tough conditions at Port Aransas. A few weeks ago we did a 10 day 4200 mile trip. Stayed at state and gov campsites. City of rocks in New Mexico, family in Phoenix, hensly lake CA, 5 days in Yosemite, Mather at grand canyon, Oliver Lee Memorial in New Mexico with a quick stop at White Sands the next morning then home. I didn't do well but the camper did very good. You know the real test for it is the beach front heat wind moisture sand n salt. Won't know till I go.

Well, if you need it sandblasted, you're headed for the right place! :?

Beach isn't really that "rough" on the getting there and back, not at Port A. Now, going down to Big Shell, past PINS, would be a true trial by fire!

When are you looking at a run to Port A?

Should be soon. Since having air conditioning is my priority I did an overnight generator test on wednesday and it crapped out. It is over 10 years old so it was time for a better one anyways. Now researching the best choice on a low budget.

I've got a 13 year old HF 5500, back from when they were blue. One of the first Honda knockoffs, and knock wood it starts 1st or 2nd pull every time. I suspect their Predator series is even better, the engine certainly is. If you decide to go that route, I've got a coupon number but it's at home. I'll get it to you if you want.

Sheesh, I don't think I've ever been so indecisive about something but I've got it narrowed down to three generator choices... or is it four or five.

Well I am very pleased with the generator easy start and quiet. I have my campers full build in the "build journals" section titled "The V2 - complete build" at http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?p=1213662#p1213662
