Planning a Spring Build

Postby Tim C. » Sat Nov 11, 2017 11:44 pm

Hi
I am a retired engineer in Canada, who likes building things, and travel. My first project upon retiring was building a sea kayak. It turned out well and I use it often. My wife and I would like to move up from a well worn tent to something that is easier to set up and a bit more robust - for those wildlife encounters in the middle of the night. Currently I am sponging up all I can on various web pages, but a forum like this with lots of experiences will be a huge asset.

Well I have been absorbing info and planning for my March build... It's still -20C out during this crazy cold snap.
I've ordered a stripped down aluminum trailer frame and checked out a sample to enable a foot well build. Things are in motion.
Now the budgetting part...

If the kayak you built was stitch and glue, you would already be familiar with the construction of the Chesapeake Light Craft Tear Drop. I have one and really enjoy it. I have a build journal here if you want to see how it goes together.Image

You are not very clear on what you think you may be building. But I have found that if you bolt the last two cross beams under the main rails you can slid a galley floor of 1/2 plywood in between the beams to lower the galley floor and make a lot more storage in the galley(5+ inches). Just a thought
