I think this Magnum MM612 may suit my purpose. https://www.invertersupply.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2609&gclid=CMvG_bGzldQCFduPswodo88PDA

It's only 600 Watt, but I don't think i'll need more than that. I also don't want to pay anymore for this device.

Per the Magnum manual, this is pretty much how my setup should be:

148520

I'll be making a diagram soon and posting to make sure my layout is kosher.

What about those "back ups" for computers would that be enough?

Completely different use case: Uninterruptible Power Supplies are designed to stand by on full charge for years, and then power X watts long enough to ride out short interruptions to mains power.

Yes if someone already had one they could adapt a kludge, but if you're shopping, right tool for the job is much better.

I'm afraid that kettle is gonna be a killer. I have gone round and round with the coffee conundrum. I tend to be awake early, obscenely early. And I just gotta have some coffee. Soon. I don't need to make a pot really, just 2 or 3 BIG cups, well they are about 10-12oz mugs. I don't want to bother other folks, or even let them know I am awake. So no genny/Mr.Coffee. Or microwave. I don't have a kitchen in the classic form, but I do have a reefer, sink and microwave. In general we eat at restaurants when we go to bike rally's. If I'm cookin', it's probably BBQ or tin foil Hobo packs that can be thrown in the fire. Sometimes a Dutch Oven in the coals. Anyways, Most coffee pots are 950w and up. If I had a moderate solar set up, I wouldn't worry about recharging batteries. They could work all day while I was gone. Like I said, I don't want to start the gen. early AM. Also, refeer will be cycling all day and I may not return till late night, so again, I don't want to start gen. to charge batteries. I've been able to go about 3 days before recharge is required, but then you have to start gen or truck and run for 1-2 hrs. If I was using Mr. Coffee, thats about all I could do.. based on my admittedly small battery. Here's how I see the numbers,
125ah deep cycle at 50 % usage = 62.5ah available before 100% charge
Norcold reefer=4amps/hr when running. Currently it cycles on for 1 min/10 off. That's about .39a/hr x24hr= 9.59ah/day
I have about 40ft of rope lighting that consumes 28-30w at 100%. I run at 50% usually and say 4hrs/day = 5.0ah
Pump, fan and "other" parasitic loads approx. 10ah
Old timey mini CRT color TV for am news/weather 1hr = 3.5ah
There is probably some stuff I'm missing but this is close.
Reefer 9.59
lights 5.0
pump, fan etc. 10.0
TV 3.5
--------------------------
Total 28.09ah
available amps 62.5
--------------------------
amps remaining 34.41

Mr. Coffee 950w x 20min = 26.38ah
-----------------------------------------------
available amps 8.02
That's just one day, so I would have to run genny at some point every day. Not a big deal, but I won't do it early am or late nite. Now, obviously there is lots of room for improvement here, but the point is Mr. Coffee is a hog. So, I've come up with a few alternative heat sources. Propane burner, butane burner and a alcohol stove. I'm not in love with any of them in a 6x12. but we'll make it work, for now. I do have a fire extinguisher mounted on the side door, so..

A big Moka on a high-BTU propane burner does make a lot more sense in this context than using battery electric.

And a lot easier to set up away from the others outside when weather allows.

Coleman makes a dedicated drip unit, but not great reviews.

I have found that a kettle with a fine mesh pour over drip or a french press coffee works great. Heating the water (just the amount to use) on the gas burner only takes about 5 minutes and then we're ready to rock. :-) I can use the electric if I wanted to, but the other way seems quicker and the coffee is just better to me (hotter). In any case... I am with you guys... the day doesn't start without at least one cup of coffee.. two or three if I am just sitting around... like this morning. ;)

You are absolutely right. I threw my kettle on the killawatt machine to see what how much energy it used. 1392 Watts or 11.6 Amps. Who knew. I'll be using propane to boil the water for sure.

Thanks for giving your daily amp hour breakdown. I've been sorta doing this but I haven't mapped it all out. I'll start measuring and figuring out this number.

Funny you say that. I boil the water today in the kettle to throw it in the French press. I can be a coffee snob and it is critical for my mornings. So I guess i'll be using the propane burner to boil the water from now on!

The problem with a french press is having to take it apart and clean out the grounds after each use. What I've been using is a Melitta pour over and a small 2 leg, screw on burner for a propane cylinder to heat the water. Just toss out the #2 filter with grounds after you perc it directly into your mug. Works great.

True, that is the painful part with the French press even in a regular house. For the price of the pour over, it's worth a shot. I just wonder if the coffee is as good since it just passes through. I let it sit in the French press for about 5-8 minutes. We'll see....

Yay... I am exited for you! That is great!

On the coffee... I raised a bunch of coffee snobs (didn't get it from me)... Starbucks or their elaborate home brews only for them (wife and daughters). The have the electric frothers and etc. for making the designer drinks and etc.  They go to a Coffee house to get their custom ordered roast and grind the beans at home.. I guess they could have worse vices... :) My son is almost as bad.. he's somewhere on the spectrum between my girls and I.. I can go fancy or drink Waffle House coffee as long as it has caffeine.

French presses really do brew a nice cup. The pour over drip does nice also as it does not use paper so all of the flavor and oils aren't absorbed. My girls would be proud of me.

Ditto's on the Fench Press cleaning hassle... The pour over is easier to clean for sure..

Old school: just toss the fine grounds in the cup with boiling water, stir a few times, let it stew, settle and cool.

Drink from the top, stop when you get those lovely dregs in your teeth.
