A few weeks ago we had our roof done and had no cooler for a couple days .
So I picked up this lil mobile swamp cooler, till I could mount the roof unit.
Thinking we could also use this in the trailer when we have power.


While I'm doing yard work today I'll do some testing .
It's been sitting in the hot sun, all windows closed . It's about 100° .


I'll open the windows/vent and see what it gets to , then turn it on.

Well after getting the windows open, it went down to 90°.
Having the cooler on it dropped to 80 before I lost sunlight for the day.
I'll have to do more testing, playing with the ventilation .

It should help a ton with those hot , no wind sleepless nights .

Since it's a 100° day I did more testing. 2pm.
The roof vent was open about 1/2" , windows closed when I went inside.
It was about 110°f inside. .


Opened the windows and vent then turned on the cooler. After cracking the back door open more, the humidity went away and 1.5 hrs later temps went down to 89°.

Not bad at all. With swamp coolers, it's all about air flow.

Note::; placing the temp gauge about mid height in the trailer gives more accurate readings.

Those would not work in this part of the country due to higher ambient humidity . I wish they would however.. very simple and effective.

I picked it up at Lowe's . It's a Honeywell unit about $170.
Shortly after they had some newer ones come in that had 2 hoses and a piece that fits in a window to pull outside air.

Most of my neighbors that had central air installed, re-installed swamp coolers after paying high electric bills.

Thanks for that info. Yea, even in an RV running a rooftop unit comes close to Breaking the Bank during "Cooling Season".
Have had several 90* + days already 1st. Century is just around the corner.
Do you have to manually need to fill it???

It has a little slide out tray to fill it or can unlatch the bottom.
Probably takes about 2+ gallons but will last close to 7hrs on low.
I even filled it with ice once with half water.

Been toying with this idea since the begining. Making an awning or shower room with the advantage of barn doors .
Had this extra tarp lying around.
So I ...
Busted out some bungee cords and took measurements.


Outside.


One sharp corner to deal with.


Goona need some sort of extendable bar to keep the doors secure and support the cover.

Looks like I have some sewing and fabbin to do.

Nice pics. How was the overland show?

I like the idea of the tarp extension. I have seen people fab bard that capture both door to keep them open and the same bar would keep the tarp from catching on the corners and tearing.

It was great. Like a big campground.
Lots of great home fabbed ideas and rooftop tents. People loved the trailer, especially the wives . One said "we are selling the RTT and building one of these"
Definitely going next year.

Might grab me an adjustable pole/bar tommorow. I wonder how I can attach it to keep the doors from moving.

Looks like you could detach the "feet" and secure them to the doors
then insert pole, etc., yadda-yadda.
