flboy, Howdy;

How are those "Air Tabs" working for ya? Any improvement in fuel mileage or stability?
I know you have the double rig for the hitch but none the less any thing noticeable?

Hi Hank. I hope all is well with you.

The tabs did nothing detectable for the fuel economy; however, they made a very noticeable difference in stability in crosswinds, and large vehicles approaching from behind. Definitely do not get sucked over when a semi sneaks up like I did before I installed the Air Tabs.

I think that alone is worth the spend, and I like the look. They are good conversation pieces if nothing else.. Many times when I am out camping or on the road with this CTC, I am approached to ask where did I get the trailer and who made it and etc. and alot of those times they will ask what are "those things " for.

Flboy, Howdy;

All is well in the desert, had a few couple'a dozen rain drops made it to terra firma earlier in the week :o , :applause: .

Good to hear the "Tabs" are doin' something for ya and not a total bust. How's Tommy doin? haven't heard from him in
some time now. Still getting you set your clock afternoon rain showers?

Hi Hank. Tommy is doing well. He went camping with me last weekend. The whole wrist thing has put a damper on any aggressive off road riding like we use to do, but we did get in some dual sporting and just plain old enjoying the camping.

Don;

First, thanks for the excellent build log and photos. I have "borrowed" many of your ideas and build plans for my own project.

Quick question, i purchased a similar awning to yours (except i got the power one) https://www.alekoproducts.com/Motorized-Retractable-RV-Patio-Awning-12-x-8-ft-p/rvawm12x8grey26-ap.htm and was wondering, if you had to add any type of bracing to the inside walls between the studs? I have all of my awning parts out for powder coat (i wanted them black and they only came in white.) I am getting ready to button up the walls post insulation and thermal break, and dont want to take them back off if at all possible.

I dont plan on installing the awning for several weeks yet, but wanted to get the blocking in there if needed.

thanks for any info you can provide.

FXDWG (Troy),

Thanks, and you are welcome.

I believe that electric awning mounts a bit differently when it comes to the vertical tracks.

In my case, the top rail where the awning tarp attaches was drilled into steel frame of trailer 16 inches on center where studs are. Easy to find as that is where aluminum skin is screwed into. The vertical top plate for each arm was screwed into top plate of the CTC frame. The ony other attach point is on the bottom of the verticals with 2 screws on each arm. The screws came through skin underneathe the floor and outside. No metal to catch besides skin so I backed area with some pressure treated marine plywood.

Hope this helps. In your case, unless you can get into metal studs, best to put something behind there to screw into or go all the way through with bolt and nut on inside with washer.

Good luck.

Ok.. here we go again. 5 day forecast has it right in the back yard as CAT3. Will have to keep an eye on this one and tie down the CTC. Been down this road a few times.. likely will change and hit somewhere else by Monday... but prepare for the worst and pray for the best is how I roll. :-)Image

One year ago today, we had severe storms. Guess what's in today's/nights forecast.
Correction, it's tomorrow/ & night for the storms. Tonight is wind
