Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Hi Glenlivets,
Great thoughts and the extra 2 feet would be nice, but I started out for an off-road rig, but alas, I have not had it on dirt except in the campgrounds I have been since leaving Arizona! :cry:

As far as the galley area and pumper sink ... I built my own galley and sized it so it was just wide (deep) enough for a small camper sink I picked up at a yard sale ... I also purchased a 2-burner propane stove that just fits as well ... the whole package works well and leaves me enough room to walk in front of the 74" bunks while they are set up :thumbsup:

I was in a rush to get the galley in before the trailer had to double-duty as a CT, to haul stuff from Arizona last year and this year, and plan on replacing the galley counter and sink this winter. I used a recycled piece of plywood and want to upgrade that, and I found a camper size stainless sink that will replace the chipped green enameled one. The manual pumper works good and don't mind the exercise (I usually carry extra jugs or a five gallon jug for water for dishes, filling the coffee pot, etc. anyway ... all depends on the trip and how many people ... :roll:

Thanks for the pics and comments ... all points help one to decide 8)
Happy Camping & Building,
John (JC)

Thank you for the kind words and evrything is still in some point of build or modification :hammer:

The bunks are still fold-up, but I think the permanent bunks are going to the Murphy side-folders with the Ikea spring slat base. With that said, I still need to try one out :relaxing:

I need to insulate the floor and have read several great methods here and need to get that done asap as I am supposed to meet with some folks north of Brainerd, MN near the end of this month and it is a flip of the coin, but it could be quite nippy :snow ...

Maybe you guys can make it, but I think it is a long haul for you -- Check out the link:

AZ_Desert_Rat, Howdy;

Got a link where we don't have to sign-up for another forum???
Sounds like an interesting trip, especially for this time of year.

Hi Hank ... How the heck have you been doing??

My apologies for the new site and log-in stuff, but I thought most members belonged to both sites ... :oops:
The Tear Jerkers site is like a cousin to T&TTT, but seems to cover more gatherings and many members belong to both.

Here is the gathering info:
Gathering: Gull Lake Brainerd MN 24-26 October 2014

I am told that Gull Lake Recreation Area is just north of Brainerd. If the plumbed bathrooms are closed, they usually camped around the pit toilet (campsites around it are numbered in the 20's. Page 2 of the brochure)
http://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/Portals/5 ... ochure.pdf

At last count there were 8 campers and counting! Not too bad for a late gathering at a campground with the running water shut off!

It is a ways from NM, but sure would like to lay an eyeball on you and hope to see you there ... It may be a bit nippy as the weather says we have a high tomorrow here in Zimmerman (south of Brainerd) of 48 :snow

Az, Howdy;

Thanks for the link, COE campgrounds are generally some nice
low frill kind of camping.
The snow (spit), bird prospectors are starting to trickle in ...

Howdy Hank,
I decided that a little electric heat might be nice as many campgrounds that I have been going to have elec outlets, I decided to wire the trailer for a few 110vac outlets. I picked up a small box that I can use for a 20/30 amp main with two outlet breakers (I can't see needing anymore than 15 amp, but 20 gives me a little reserve, and 30 is overkill at this time (No A/C or Microwave) :twisted: I'll carry the Buddy as a backup in the TV, just in case 8)

I ordered a 20 amp shore-power style inlet plug from Shorewood RV and will pick that up Monday ... stopped at the big box store and picked up the rest of the stuff ... I finally found my camera (I hate moving :x ) and will get a few picks added to the gallery next week :pictures:

Hope to meet you sometime while we are still rolling :vroom:

Az_Desert_Rat, Howdy;

Last year I bought one of these
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Honeywell-Ene ... k/38205402
and use it in my "Home" RV to keep the chill off when
I can. I also used it when I went to Mt. this past June.
Works like a Champ!!! In Mt. even though it was the middle
of June the night time temps were down into the 20's
and low 30's. Even with a un-insulated CT it kept me
and Rascal (the pooch), warm and comfortable.

Hi Hank,
I picked up a different brand, but also 1500 watts, 2-speed with a T-Stat and fan ... it is physically a little smaller than the one in your link and I hope to try it out at Gull Lake next week :twisted:

My trailer is a bit smaller than yours at only 6x10 and is insulated .... so, I hope it works as well as the one you picked up :worship:

Glenlivet,

I love your trailer and I'm stealing, uh...borrowing many ideas for my 6x12 Harley Hauler/Tramper, especially the fold-down bed design. I think I have enough info from previous posts on dimensions and such. I also like the canopy and I know you told another person you had purchased the trailer with the canopy already installed. Is there a brand name or a part number on it?

Thanks
Kevin

Glenlivet, Howdy;

Glenlivet wrote:Finally put in a vent I've been thinking about for some time now. This one is a bivalve 4" and mounted in an un-trafficed but fairly central part of the floor. The idea is to provide a low entry point for incoming air to work with the ceiling vent and allow convection to establish an efficient path for venting of C01 and water vapour from the catalytic heater. The side window was working alright as an air inlet but this should be better.
The other use is a lowest point vent to permit any leaked heavier than air gases to spill out instead of accumulating on the floor.

This cap was riveted on after the pic. The end looks white but it's all galvanized with a bug screen on the inside. Keep the crawlers and rodents from getting ideas. :lol:

Sorry to be so late to be asking this question. Do you still have a link to where you purchased the floor mounted 4" bi-valve that you mentioned in the above quote?
Again, I apologize for thinking of this question so late.

No problem! But I'm afraid I just bought it off the shelf at a nearby RV parts dealer, Cottonwood RV in Chilliwack B.C..

THANK YOU for the detail on your awesome folding bed setup. :applause: :beer:

After much consideration and debate, I think I'm going to follow what you did very closely! It's helping me achieve my goal (and bonus goal!) of a queen size sleeping area for me, a bench and table to work from comfortably - and space above the bench for a bunk for a visitor!

Anything you'd do differently if you were to do it again? (Looks like it's been a few months since you've logged in).

Years, more like!
For construction, no I don't think I could have used the space more economically. Only thing now is that I've bought a SXS and my fridge install doesn't permit me to load it. I now have a toy hauler (having a bathroom is nice!) but I still have the 6 x 10.

Good luck on your build! Nothing like a good night sleep in a big bed.
