Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Hey Hey MtnDon

I can't wait - good to hear its on the way finally ......
I bet they are SLOW because its cold as hell at the factory & they don't got no heaters in GA
Due to the artic air drift

The guys in PA are spending $16k a month to heat the factory - but it's always cold there.
That's one reason it costs more up north

Or in TX... they have a factory in McGregor, TX too, which is where this one is coming from.

When we moved to NM from Canada decades ago I was surprised at the number of open air shops. I went to a welder one day soon after arriving. Walked into the fabrication section and found there was no roof. Concrete block walls, concrete floor. Roof over other parts but where they welded, nada. No expensive OHSA blowers either.

Anyhow hopefully it comes Friday so I can pick it up before taking off for the weekend.

MtnDon,
Great for you and your wife. I look forward to seeing your work, especially after seeing your cabin in the woods work. I am sure you will be inspiring.

But now I need help. My wife and her brother are on the hunt of "why not just buy a used Travel Trailer".

It means I am doing the CT sales pitch more often right now. But I am going the CT route. :x :x

We've been asked that by several people too. If they have to ask they likely won't "get it". I suppose there are lots of reasons why people do a CT conversion. Some of ours are, narrower width than the typical TT. No carpets; of course we do not have carpets anywhere, not at home, not at the cabin.... The car & truck do but they have WeatherTech mats too... I miss my factory rubber matted floors in the old Scout and Land Cruiser BJ60. I'd do ceramic tile if it wasn't for the weight and likely cracking. ;)

Head on view of the deep vee. Six feet across the width, 4 feet from there to point. Front jack is a swivel mount type.

Interior view, looking back from door in vee. Wheel wells are welded sheet steel. They followed the directive to not install te 'trim' strips. The fasteners that secure the 3/8 plywood to the wall framing are real screws. Easy to remove with a drill driver.

Don, I am curious, why did you keep the overall width at 6 feet and bring the wheels to the inside?

Basically we just did not want the wheels and fenders hanging out in the breeze; did not want the extra track width. The interior space loss is minor; to us at least. And it does slip into the allocated space beside the garage better. ;)

MtnDon, Howdy;

Glad to see you got it home. That's a fairly radical V you've got on the front of that CT.
lookin' forward to seeing what you do with it...

Looks sleek with the wheels inboard.

One of your pictures shows a hand cart for moving trailers. Does it work well for you? I trust you used it to be able to get safely close to the side fence.
