You better say Negative -22 to get the extra 2"

OK, was not sure how to say it, but I guessed it might have been that. I ordered with enough verbiage, that I should not have any confusion. And besides I get to review and approve the drawings. I like that.

Bob

Psst today I'm doing the solar cocoon test .....psssssssssst
So far all my test expectations have been grand slammed

54 days till your CM lift off
BTW- are you dealing direct with factory Ted or Ron or a dealer ?

I was direct at first with Butch. Then I needed to through a dealer who works with Ted. I am not sure what the future will bring as far as dealing with someone. I had to purchase through the dealer and then I will pick up the trailer at the factory.
They are working on my drawings now as they pushed yesterday to get my final specs on a few custom changes.

So here is a summary of the custom changes on my order:

5200 lb torsion single axle
Special request to frame in for two vents
Raise the side door threshold to allow for me to put insulation on top of the subfloor.
6in added height
-22.5 degrees for Torsion Axle Arm.
No paint on floor

Hi Bob

Don't worry nothing will be wrong when you pick it up at the factory. They have really good QC.
Even on my sale - they put the paperwork through their dealer.

Does not seam like the math wizards are into my new AC - so I will keep all my data under my hat
However I will tell you it's a grand slam success beyond even my wildest crazy calculations.
I'm going to see if I can get a PE to draw up the specs & ask my trademark lawyer buddy
to secure the design. Will see what happens.

Cheers Jerry

Jerry, how about giving is more specifics such as brands, names, techniques, photos and all that. I for one am more visual when it comes to things like this.

lrrowe, Howdy;

Almost sounds like mine ... I stayed with the spring axle
and kept the threshold where it was. Liked Cindy's idea of
putting the insulation under the floor to maintain headroom so
I think I'll be doing that when i can afford to start the build, still
in recovery from the purchase and the trip to Montana.
Getting the heaver axle gave me the 7-way plug as well as the
brakes and staying with the springs I can always slip a leaf out
to soften the ride if need be.
Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Other then you none here are really interested. It's to much work for me to bore them ?
If you wanna have system like mine - now that I know how it all works -
It Could be done for $8,000 on a trailer your size. If you install Dow blue board & ceiling denium, 2" foam floor etc.

People are paying $150,000 for a MB - Airstream - not one watt of solar :x what gives ??

There are lots of RV suckers paying dealers $8-10k for some crap just to watch a little tv
$3,000 in solar & $5,000 for labor  I wasted a lot myself being first down the solar road.

Thanks Hank.
I sure hope I am making the right decision on the -22.5 degree decision. I hope the ride will not be too stiff. Unlike you, I am stuck with it as there is no adjusting the angle once built. Torsion axles are the standard with this manufacturer. I did not think to ask for springs as a option.

I need to sit down and estimate the total loading for the trailer. If I use 1000 lbs for construction materials, batteries, 20 gal water tank, bunking material, coolers, Honda generator, solar panels and so forth and add that to the trailer weight of say 1600 lbs, the I will be around 2600 to 2800 lbs. 70% of the 5000 lb axle is 3500 lbs. So I might be ok. My fingers are crossed.

Putting insulation underneath the flooring is also an option. I will see how it goes during my hunting trips this coming November.

Has anyone had any experience with the low cost infrared temperature sensors such as this one?
http://t.harborfreight.com/infrared-the ... 93984.html

I will have limited use of it, therefore I do not want to spend too much. Would rather put the extra money into the trailer.

Bob

Don't worry torsion are 10,000 times better then springs, you can't even compare day & night.
mine rides great when empty,
But ride is sweetest at 70-80% load.

I've tested the HF against a Fluke and it was amazingly close and a fraction of the cost.
