Running the generator at night will not keep me up as I will be inside with my Honda Gen running as needed until 10pm or so. I am fine with whatever you want to do, but I prefer the boondock also. Maybe we can grab different campsites next to the edges of the woods and run your cord out as far as possible. That would help. I suspect after 10pm at night you be fine with a fan? I have a 12vdc fan if you don't. SSRA is good too. Your call.

Don't want to be too far apart as strangers may camp in between us. Stay close for safety and theft prevention. I hate the loud generator. My little champion can run both fans. The AC fan and the Maxx-air. I will be alright. Worst case the champion runs a little late. 10-11 pm. Shady oak hammock for me. Same spot as before if its available. Cold shower to cool off at bedtime.

Leaving work at 1430 Thursday. See you there but will touch base prior to then.

Have a good weekend!

NO Generac. Too loud.

Not talking about space between our campsites. I meant space between your gen and everyone else. If we are on the woods edge and the gen is 50 ft in the woods, it will be that much further from others.

The campsite you normally pick is in the middle of the Campground with folks on all sides.

I am fine with it.

Refilling 1lb. Propane Bottles

Postby flboy » Sat Apr 22, 2017 9:51 am

I bought two old propane bottles off Craigslist this morning for $10.00 and promptly exchanged them at True Value hardware for $17.99 each for refilled and newer bottles. I didn't have any exchange at first and they are $49.99 without an exchange, so I did this instead.

Then, I went home and refilled my 1lb bottles (6 of them successful). I weighed them and I got 16oz in each by pulling the Schrader valve @ 2 oclock position until liquid flowed while filling. I started with 8 bottles, but had to discard two of them. I found that the Coleman bottles have better valves and do not leak after pulling the Schrader valve for filling purposes. The Ozark Trail bottles have a cheaper looking valve stem and they leaked some. I could not get them to completely stop after tinkering with them. Lessons learned. Buy Coleman bottles if you are going to refill. They seem to be better.

Long story short, refilling the 1lb bottles saved me about $20.00 so that more than made up for the cost of the exchange tanks I bought for $10.00

When my side laying propane tank on the CTC runs out next time, I am going to replace it with one of these upright tanks. Easier to exchange or fill. The tank I furbished from the donor trailer does not have a current inspection date so folks don't want to fill it, and I cannot exchange. This will be better and much more convenient. :-)

I am working on the trailer today, so will have some photos later of the Cell Booster install and a few other minor things.

The new bike chock works great. The Kingpin fits perfectly. I moved the bed up 6 inches for more clearance. It seems just right now for the bed loft and the functionality of the garage area below for loading and lounging around when the bike is out. I can still access the bed and use it with the bike in, and that was my goal even with the big bike in. Yay!.. :) :)

Cell Phone Booster Installation

Postby flboy » Sat Apr 22, 2017 4:08 pm

I built the Booster Antenna mast out of an extendable paint roller pole. The antenna/pole is all hooked up and just slides into the PVC hanger I made and bolted onto the ladder. I cut a hole for the cable pass through (I know I lied McDave... I just had to cut another hole). When I get to a campsite and if I need a Cell Phone boost, I'll just put the antenna up and push the cable through. The antenna can be stored in my truck bed when traveling. All the rest of the hardware will be inside. It should only take a few minutes to hook up.

Now I'll go install the inside hardware and test it out.

I was careful to put a drip loop in so water doesn't run down the cable and into the trailer.

Cell Phone Booster Installation

Postby flboy » Sat Apr 22, 2017 5:22 pm

Wow... I think this booster is going to work great on the fringes. I have decent cell service at my house. I get 4G LTE about 3 bars inside (~-102dBm). When I go inside the CTC, the service drops to 3G and is about ~-114dBm. Also, the download is <1MB/S and upload data speed is .03MB/S.

When I turn the booster on, I go to -84Dbm and back to 4G LTE service with downloads >1MB/S and upload at 1.2Mb/s. That is very nice. Also, the automatic gain control lights on the repeater amplifier are blinking which means it is limiting the gain some.. On the fringes, it should run wide open. I am looking forward to testing this out in the forest next weekend.

Here are some pics of the repeater mounted on the wall. This seemed like the best place....it is close to power and about mid ship.

Wow Don! Amazing. You are really ready to hit the road big time. Moab, Taylor park Colorado. Who knows. I watch those U-tube videos and dream of going out there. Then I realized the altitude at some of those places. 5-10 thousand feet. I read somewhere how some Florida dirt riders did that and could not go 6 miles do to the altitude difference from sea-level. That would be me! Wish I was younger sometimes. But you are in good shape.

Anyway. Friday high 96. Yes I hear what you say and will bring the big Generac as I have room. Those out side campsites require you to park your DB on the out side of the small fence encompassing the camp site but they may not enforce it. We will work it out. I have some 100 foot cords.

That C.T of yours is incredible. I have C.T envy.

Thanks Tommy! I just looked at the extended forecast also. It does look like the high temps have crept up a bit. We''ll just have to take it easier on the rides. I ride/camp year round in ONF, so I am use to it... Sleeping at night won't be bad. You can run the GEN/AC to cool it all down, then around 10pm... switch off to your fan/battery to keep the air circulating. Your battery should be at a full charge due to the Generator running prior to shut down. In any case... I am looking forward to the trip this week.

Flboy & Tommy,

Here's a resource for ya, have been hearing (yup, even way out here), about
some of the wildfires back East in the Sunshine ...
http://www.arcgis.com/apps/PublicInform ... 1408287189
It's interactive and you can add and remove layers to "see" what is out there.

Don, I get my expired 20 lb tanks recertified at my local propane dealer for $10. The recertification last for 5 years.

Yes... I could have done that I suppose, but I wanted tanks to exchange. Sometimes it is hard to get a fill up when I can exchange just about anywhere. I also wanted a spare so I can run it to empty without having to go without while boondocking.
