What made you choose....??

Postby jay87lx » Thu Oct 12, 2017 1:34 pm

Hi!!!
In my internet shopping, looking at trailers, reading your build threads and posts I have wondered why some people have chosen either a fold down rear door or barn style doors or what made you choose the color of your trailer, to match your tow vehicle, did you choose white to keep heat down in the summers?

what were some of the initial choices you were presented with and why did you make the choice you did??
I would love to buy a blk trailer to match my truck but I think it may create too much heat

Ramp for me. Using it to haul my Harley Tri-Glide.

Ramp door because it is a toy hauler and I need to roll the motorcycles in. I chose white for heat considerations and I like the white color better.

Silver to match gray truck and I wanted a cool (as in temperature) color other then white.
Barn doors as I wanted to create a “galley” concept in the back.

Size, cost and housing rules for me. I needed to pull it with my Jeep and didn't want to break the bank. I would have built, but have an HOA from hell. Put all that together and I ended up with the InTech Max Flyer. I chose black, as it was one of three colors I could get at the time and it matched my Jeep. Then I took the "matching thing" to the next level.

I haul a lifted golf cart so I was building a toy hauler I knew I needed a 7ft trailer so I ordered it from the factory with the door moved back a rv screen door and window things I didn't want to do and I knew they would do a better job.
I chose grey to match my suburban but now I have a white chevy 2500 the towing is way better.

these photos were the original setup
I realized it looked really plain so I found some RV decals and made it look a lot better 873607761263870

I wanted double barn doors as a ramp would not work for my rear facing galley concept. I ended up with a lift door, which gives instant protection from sun and rain and is out of the way.

As far as barn doors or cargo, what is standard and what is and added upcharge?

The side door earlier can be ordered as an option from many manufacturers. Ask for an RV door, sized to your specs. Windows and screens should also be available from the dealers who have side door options.

Many brands seem to offer either for the same price but clearly this can vary I am sure.

I have another trailer with a ramp that I am waiting to start working on and have always sort of wished that it had Barn Doors instead but now I am thinking I will make the ramp into a Porch and am pretty excited about it!

Downside is need enough room in a campsite to use the ramp in lowered position and maybe security with the ramp down too?

I have some ideas though about the second one.

jay87lx, Howdy;

I choose barn doors, don't have a need for the ramp but if I need to roll anything into it
I can get some portable ramps. As mentioned above, I don't need to have the extra space
to open the ramp door, and I only need to open 1 door should I need to change a tire on
the roadside. I keep the spare, jack and tools back there.

Ramp for us to carry my wife's power wheelchair.

Bought my NEO off dealer lot, but white/silver color matches our van nicely.
