Which enclosed's have rounded or curved one piece roofs?

Postby rebar » Wed Nov 29, 2017 2:52 pm

I know interstate trailers do..
Wells Cargo
haulmark
Featherlite
Aluma
Stealth
Neo offers the option.

Iv noticed some trailers have curved roofs, but have a seam where the radius decreases close to the outside.. No Thanks.

Sorry, just trying to get some key words for searching with search tempest..

Thanks

I found a H&H trailer with the rounded curved one piece roof I like.. They are asking $3200.

I think its worth closer to $2000 ?
I don't like how the industry isnt using this type of roof any more..

Is it possible to buy a roof like that on its own?

I'm thinking of DIY over a custom frame, maybe even a "cranked raising popup" style, but sealing up the roof itself is daunting.

I imagine you could find a trailer company to retro fit this type of round one piece roof.

I'm kind of obsessed with keeping water out and started a thread a while ago called "Trailers eventually leak water.." after fighting numerous leaks in a featherlite http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=68635

For me, after seeing this type of roof.. Nothing else compares.

I'd want to buy the roof, and design from that on down. I think them working with me on an unusual setup would be asking a bit much.

Sundowner Trailer cargo only offers the one-piece radius roof: http://www.sundownertrailer.com/tlr-CargoBP.html.

Take a look at Sundowner's Mini-go Trailer: http://www.sundownertrailer.com/tlr-MiniGO.html

Sounds like I'm promoting these guys. I'm not but they do make quality trailers. Two possible negatives - 1) they are make in Oklahoma and have limited distribution, and 2) you pay for the quality.

Thanks, all additions to the list have value.

I'm looking at much bigger though, currently shooting for around 7+' x 19'

Yes they do.. But the roof's Not radius'ed.. Only the extruded corner. The roofs a flat piece of aluminum which doesn't wrap over the side walls. No advantage over flat top's other than the round look. Their design is like my 24' featherlite was, where the caulked seam was a little lower than the roof creating a gutter low spot where standing puddles had the chance of leaking more than the curved roof in my first post. I chased leaks in that featherlite until I sold it.

Just to clarify. Even the round roof I posted has seams every 4'.. Difficult to get away from that. But the seams are located in places that have pitch and drain well. Second, the lapped seams lay flat and tight to each other with a truss under each, reducing the need for gobs of sealant similar to side walls.

Sundowners are top of the line trailers. As well as featherlite. I just disagree with their approach because water runs down hill.

That is getting big. My 24x8.5 was way to big

Big long stampings require a very large press which also needs high volume to justify its existence.

Airstreams seldom leak. I had a very old one and an Avion, no leaks. Many seams.

Or get an English Wheel and learn to gas weld aluminum and make a roof like they made olde airplanes. Even new airplanes have joints.

This guy could teach you. https://www.youtube.com/user/tinmantech ... F1Srs_e1Aw

Or bend wood like a canoe. Finish with epoxy.

I think some trailers were made of fiberglass, but it ages.

The roof pic in my first post could be done with 4' rolling machine I believe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oB0F_9KvC24

It would take a few test pieces, but after that it wouldn't be to bad.

Yes, it would do it easily. I had access to a complete metal shop. My favorite tool was the big shear which could cleanly cut 8ft long 1/4" steel in one whomp. We could have made armored trailers.

One of our guys thought he knew how to use the roller. He put too thick of metal in it and a roller took out his top teeth.

Ouch! Let me guess.. The release for the top rolls popped open while his face was above it?

As far as the trailer in my picture.. It sold. That's what I get for pursuing a out of town trailer where the owner would rather deal with someone local, and I dont blame him.. Plus he wasnt available when I was. Anyway

Here's the next one south of me 45 minutes. Thing is.. Their asking 4500 and I dont know if I can justify that when I'm going to hack it all up.
