Sound like an easy fix... I have to get two more sliders too on the list. Thanks.

flboy wrote:Good luck on Maiden Voyage. Go to Wal-Mart and then to the baby section. Look for the cabinet and outlet safety devices. There will be some stick on strap type locks. I use that on my fridge and it works great. I have also seen them in hardware stores. I will post a pic later if you are not sure what I am talking about.

McDave wrote:That looks good Mr. Bo. Real good. So, tongue weight is a very important thing to know. You want 10-15% of total trailer weight on the tongue hitch. There are several ways to measure the tongue weight, but here is a way estimate trailer weight and balance. Just insert your numbers where you see the red numbers and the program will do the math.
https://www.engineersedge.com/calculato ... alance.htm
Also, be sure that your hitch is the right height for the trailer. My Pace 6x12 requires 16" hitch height, the height will affect the weight on the hitch and the attitude of the trailer. You want to be level in flight with 10-15% of trailer weight on the hitch.

Good luck with the test flight,

McDave

If I did everything right it came up with 214 lbs on the tongue, that is in the ballpark. Wondering if in worst case I can get air shocks or something for lift? I went from the ball being about 3" lower to a strait ball. Need to do and secure a couple things before I hook it up and take around the block. Then if she passes that part ... look for a hill. Not hard here. May have to go up one of the Canyons to see how that works. Safety is number one. Don't want to be "that Guy" .

Thanks again!

Are you thinking you added 1000lbs give or take? That sounds pretty close from what I have seen you put in there. And remember you can use coolers etc. to correct the tongue light/heavy condition. If the rear of the TV squats an inch or so thats probably good. If it drops so far the front seems to rise, that's bad. If the trailer gets bucky and you can feel or hear it bouncing of the ball hitch, also bad. That is where the cooler and other portable weight come in. You'll know by the feel if she is flyin' right.

640-700lbs at the most.

To put the numbers down here.... The wood added does not weigh that much. The stove was 20lbs, refer 60lbs, sink 5lbs, wood about 50lbs then the propane tanks on the front 80lbs if full = 215lbs . To the back the side unit is about 70lbs, bed about 80lbs. under bed, Spare tire under 80lbs, gear 100lbs, back unit 70lbs, drivers side wall unit 30lbs = 430 add 50lbs for added clothes and stuff. 480 lbs plus adding a five gallon water cooler backup jug 40lbs cooler 30lbs that's 550. could even put it at 650 for good measure. ( Just picked up a water cooler jug at "Save a Lot" for $6.99 if anyone is looking) filled it and have to get some strapping and bungees for the last of the securing things down. (I guess you have to make sure to fill up the back water jug and cooler on the way back cause usually these things are lighter on the return home trip to keep balanced.

Then I can hook it up. :worship:

Thanks for all the advice.

:applause:

I went back and looked at your rig when you first got it. It looks as if the tow vehicle (Subaru?) is riding a bit low in the rear and the trailer appears to be a bit nose low. I assume the trailer was basically empty and that from the factory the axle is placed to ensure correct tongue weight when empty and in a level attitude. So I think you needed to raise the hitch ball anyway. That will actually take some of the load off the tow vehicle so handling and braking should be closer to normal. Here are some more tools for tongue weight.

UPDATE! Good NEWS! Looks like my math worked :D

Hooked it up, drop to about where it was before. Was able to get over the pull out curb and did not hit on dips in the road. Workable, pulled around the neighborhood, looked for a local hill and got it up to 60 mph on the highway.

We are heading east in two weeks for the maiden voyage. But he big test will be getting it up the mountain to our spots in the high elevation.

Pulled nice, but you can tell it is there dragging you down.

Got the Solar panel Kick stand done, everything stayed in place on the test drive, so far so good.

Could not be happier! Thanks for yours and others help!

I set my expectations low so I am more than pleased, YOU CAN dream it, build it and LOVE IT!

UPDATE Solar Panel Kick Stand

Solar Panel Kick Stand made out of PVC , 6 elbows, 3 t's, and screws. I did drill screws into the joints after this video to secure the main connecting parts that did not spin. Best part is you can adjust the pitch as needed.

Will stake down with rubber tie downs. Very easy to build and cost effective. Decided to use these tie downs.
Soft Loop Tie-Down Straps in Blue Color, 8pk x 18in, 3600lbs ( not affiliate links) $6.99 free shipping, if anyone is looking. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDVJ89Z/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Latest Updates.

Video on The Moment of Truth hooking it up for the first time for a test drive. Someone suggested an air ride system. May look into it. Not expensive and it goes inside of the springs. Easy install.

Pre-lim tour Video. Excited for first trip this week. Got the back screen done, not in this video next, it turned out GREAT! Also got the solar panel mount done under the bed. Slides right in from the back and so far looks like it will work good.

Cozy and Rustic. Cabin On Wheels!

Had en excitement this week when a neighbor showed up that lives a few streets down, saw the moment of truth video and recognized the area ( also a postman). Stopped over then brought his wife and family for a tour. We had five people in here no problem. Wife was not sure of doing the build until she got to see what you can do with it. She was sold! They are going to do a toy hauler. Small world. He thought I would be in Denver or somewhere and I was right in the hood.

Here are the straps I used for sloar panel and bikes. Great price. Cartman Soft Loop Tie-Down Straps in Blue Color, 8pk x 18in, 3600lbs $6.99 free shipping ( not affiliate links) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDVJ89Z/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 using 4 for the solar panel and a couple for the bikes inside.

Also Hands Free Mesh Screen Net Door with magnets Anti Mosquito Bug Curtain USA $7.85 ( went up) free shipping - ( not affiliate links) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hands-Free-Mesh-Screen-Net-Door-with-magnets-Anti-Mosquito-Bug-Curtain-USA/162450219727?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 These came with push-in pin/nails and also velcro patches. Easy install with the nails. Used a couple of the velcro patches for the light and stereo remotes to attact to the wall. Worked perfect. Saved from having to buy some. Put a screen on the front door and one in the back sideways.

Love seeing all the new builds! Beautiful work and great skill levels!

Hope your build or planning is going well. Fun and exciting times!

Hey Mr.Bo,
Really nice work on the videos. You look like you are really enjoying this stuff. I remember when I took mine to the Beartooth Pass Rally and Iron Horse Rodeo and every time I rode into camp people would come over to take the tour. You could literally see their eyes light up as they got the ideas for what they could do. At least 40 people went in there at some point. Totally worth it. By the second day, the neighbors had learned to take advantage of the shade from the awning. Not a bad thing at all, Lady bikers from Minnesota are a lot of fun.

Thanks McDave! very cool story. Yes very much enjoying it. Still coming up with ideas. I think this is a new trend that is starting to pick up speed. It was fun to hear the ideas my neighbors had and see their head spinning with new ideas.

Beartooth pass sounds great. We will be at CO Jackson Lake State Park This week if anyone if in that area. Great fishing spot.

Thanks again! Happy trails!
