And I also managed to get all of the side pieces cut.



The gap between the sides and the end of the trailer will be closed using an adjustable piece to account for any unlevel-ness there might be.

The last thing I installed last night were the pieces that will keep the bottom of the panels in place. I used hard maple for this but I may switch it out later with some aluminum bar.

In this image I'm using a small piece of side scrap and a 1/16" thick piece of plastic to create some wiggle room in case the panels warp or swell.


Here you can see I left a little bit of a gap at the end, this is to allow water to weep out of the track.

Nice! Way to go with an expandable trailer! That adds a lot of useable space back there! Very creative.

Last night I took the roof back off so I could attach the drip edge which the side walls will be locked against.

Once I got the edging on I flipped it back over so I could glass over the joints. You can see the old fashioned weather stripping attached to the top in the second picture.

May be “low tech”, but surely very stout. I’d not want the roof to get caught by wind, then flop down on my head!

Truth! which is exactly why I did it I'm trying to eliminate any possible failures, the roof is entirely supported by the end wall and sides so that it's not relying on the hinge for strength.

Can NOT accuse you of under building or skimping on materials, glassing is almost a step beyond. , .

I also went a bit further back then I had when I made the comment about springs, weight and such,
saw where you'd already taken it into consideration and made adjustments to account of them. I

Yes! When I started this project it was with the idea of staying compact, at 7X14 we can squeeze into spaces bigger rigs can't so it opens up more places we can visit. With the addition we stretch out to 21 Feet if needed and pick up about 40sqft.

But the hidden gem everyone may not have picked up on but was there from the inception is that with how I constructed it

I DON'T HAVE TO PUT UP THE SIDES!

My choice of materials means the deck can be exposed to the weather...

So we can just fold up the roof and end wall and use it as an open porch.

Or we can leave the sides off, hang some screen and make it a screen room.

And lastly we can put up just a few panels as a weather shield and use it as a mud room.

Last night I finished sanding the glass, reinstalled the roof and found out that I placed the rain guard in the wrong position not a big deal but something I need to address.
