Battery Question

Postby jwh92020 » Fri Mar 22, 2019 3:22 pm

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I like the info y'all give. I have a chance to but a number of Leoch 12v 95 amp hr batteries for $75/ea. They were in a data storage center for 90 days before it closed. They will come with battery boxes and connecting cables. I'll be running a single 435 watt panel and a 40 amp MPPT controller. Are these good batteries for this application? her is a link to their info.

Looks like a good battery, can't beat that price. I would probably go for it just as long as you know that is the history on them. We have a local place that sells used batteries from what I hear the guy tells everyone the same story where they come from. You know they can't all come from the same place.

These come from a guy I've done a lot of business with. He is an electronics recycler here in OKC. I trust what he tells me. Everything I've bought fom him has been quality.

If they were in a data storage unit I'll bet they haven't been used at all. Probably backup power and never kicked in. I would buy them in a heartbeat!!!!

I'd make sure they were maintained with a battery charger and haven't been self discharging for months. Its not uncommon for data center owners to turn off the power and walk away if they close suddenly. I'd also check the date code and see when they were made, it's tough to get more than 5 years from a lead acid battery, even if it hasn't been used heavily. If all that checks out it's probably a good deal.

P.S. Put a voltmeter on the battery and check the voltage. If it's less than 12V I'd walk away...
