Anyone tried a DUAL HOSE portable AC in a CTC?

Postby ISOTNT » Wed Feb 03, 2021 12:30 pm

I really want to try one as part of my build for multiple reasons and worst case, I guess I can always return it and plug the floor holes again if I had to.
However, I have been reading through a lot of old threads and portables get bad feedback from the guys who have tried them, but they always seem to be the single hose units which create the negative pressure issue, pulling in hot outside air etc.
It would seem to me that the dual hose units, correctly installed, would remedy this and so I am looking for feedback from people who have actually used them in a CTC. Anyone here have that first-hand experience?
Thanks!!!!

i ran a single hose for a season in my 6x12, it worked but wasn't very efficient, dual hose is the way to go

Dual hose will work alot better than a single hose for sure, but not as good as a window unit or minisplit with the same BTU rating. I think it has to do with hose sizes and air exchange on the condenser...

Just insulate well (floor also) and try it. It will work and sometimes good enough is good enough!

I had a single hose unit and it was terrible. I modified it to make it dual hose and it was acceptable. Just took up alot of room due to hoses and unit being inside, so I sold it and bought a smaller BTU window unit and mounted it in the rear door. It worked better for sure.. but was a more complicated installation. .

Thank you guys. I am going to give it a shot and will report back. This is a build for the Wife, 2 Sons and me to go dirt biking with, so AC is a must, especially since we ride TX/AR.

Flboy,
I found an old post of your elec setup and think I am going to copy that. This is with the manual transfer switch and 2 breaker panels. Is there anything you have changed or would do different now?

Also, love that KTM ya got there! I had an 02 400EXC that I stupidly got rid of and wish I had back. On a DRZ400 now and I love it, but it's not the KTM...

Edit: I just noticed you have some youtube videos out there! Watching those now, thanks!!

I've been using a two hose for a few years, it work good in a insulated 12x7 trailer.
Have a DRZ and a YZ250FX that I hall around along with a few others.

I am building another CTC next month and I will do it the same way again. It works great for me. Hopefully you have the latest schematic...

Yes, I love my 450EXC. I also have a 690R Enduro. Both great bikes.

I will be making some detailed videos as I build the next CTC... hopefully they will be helpful to folks.

Best of luck with your build.

I put one in this year. Was able to use it just once. Didnt need it past September. Where I went it was shady and it worked well. I didnt want to cut the floor, so I put the exhaust out the back barn door.

That is awesome.. The more I read, the more I am leaning toward a window unit setup of some sort.

Oh man, onehoser, I hate to ask but do you have more pics showing the build and install in your trailer? From the outside, I mean?

Also, do you have issues with it being mounted at floor level? This looks like it has real potential for mine as I can't really add the roof refrigerator vent like Flboy and still fit under my awning.

onehoser, Howdy;

How do you keep the Weather and vermin out? Gonna get a lot of tire spray
when the roads are wet. Just curious.
